How to grow strawberries in plastic bags. Growing strawberries in bags - technology features

fresh berries and fruits are a natural source of vitamins and microelements. Namely, these substances play a decisive role in the normalization of most metabolic processes in the body. The lack of useful components often causes the development of various pathologies, and it is, of course, better to fill this gap in nutrition from natural sources. Therefore, the method of intensive technology - growing strawberries in bags - enjoys such recognized popularity.

Preparatory work

To implement the method, you should stock plastic bags or large bags - about the height of potatoes. The width of such a bag depends on how it is placed:

  • If you plan to hang the structure, then the diameter of the bag should not exceed 16 cm;
  • When placed on the ground or on a strong support, the dimensions of the bag can correspond to the dimensions of conventional potato bags.

For the construction of the structure, you can also use an ordinary plastic film thicker - 0.2-0.3 mm. Having soldered the edges of the bag and its bottom with an iron, do not forget to additionally provide strength by tying it in several places with twine.

At a distance of 20-25 cm around the perimeter of the bag, small (up to 8 cm) oblong or rhombus-shaped holes are placed around, through which landing is made.

Growing strawberries in plastic bags can be done in two ways:

  • Horizontal. The bags are placed on prefabricated strong structures that can be built in several rows in height. Holes for seedlings are made only in the upper part of the bag, and holes are made at the bottom to let excess moisture out. This method is more suitable for large plantings that require financial costs;
  • Vertical. Bags are placed on the ground or hung on supports. Thus, significant space savings are achieved. This method is rarely used for placement in large greenhouses, but it is very beneficial for small plantings, which can be located in any suitable place: a small greenhouse, a barn, a garage, and even a balcony.

Preparation of soil and planting material

Strawberries in bags will actively grow subject to 3 main points:

  • quality soil;
  • Strong seedlings;
  • Necessary microclimate conditions.

In order for plants to receive all the components necessary for growth and development, it is necessary to provide them with slightly acidic or neutral soil. The ideal option is a combination of perlite and peat in equal amounts. However, most often it is used for small plantings, since such soil is quite expensive.

Growing large volumes of bagged strawberries can be done at a much lower financial cost by using the following mix:

  • Sod land;
  • Small sawdust;
  • river sand;
  • Humus (no more than 3%).

To obtain high-quality planting material for the first time, it is best to use the services of professionals and purchase seedlings (preferably self-pollinating) in special nurseries with a reliable reputation.

Later, select a few of the strongest and most productive plants, mark them and take only the first mustache from them - they will have the highest productivity characteristics in the future.

Creating a microclimate

Of course, no plant will grow without certain conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually create the necessary characteristics of the microclimate:

  • Temperature regime should be kept within the most comfortable limits for the plant: from +16 +17˚С to +24 +25˚С. At lower values, the plant stops intensive fruiting, and higher t can have a negative impact on the root system. Therefore, before planting, it is necessary to provide for the need for ventilation;
  • Lighting- an indispensable element for the growth and development of any plant. If a greenhouse is used for planting, then the issue of lighting does not arise. And to grow a berry in a room with poor lighting, you should use fluorescent lamps;
  • Humidity, both air and soil, is a crucial component of normal growth and development. With a horizontal arrangement of bags, watering is carried out in an arbitrary mode - excess moisture leaves through the lower holes. In the vertical position of the bags use drip irrigation: a pipe is installed above the rows of bags, to which several tubes from droppers of different lengths are attached. Above each bag, 3 such tubes are placed with a difference in length of 50 cm compared to the previous one. Thus, moisture reaches 3 tiers of planting in each planting tank. Watering is carried out on the basis of 2 liters of liquid per 30 kg bag per day.

Important! If fertilizing is necessary, the fertilizer is dissolved in the liquid and applied during irrigation. Usually top dressing is carried out before flowering.

Planting strawberries in bags

To grow productive plants, when planting, follow the step-by-step instructions:

  • Prepare holes in the bags and shed the soil well;
  • Place the seedlings for the duration of the work in moist soil, preventing it from drying out;
  • If the bags are located horizontally, then the roots should not be deeply buried;
  • With a vertical arrangement, on the contrary, the roots must be placed deeper in the hole;
  • Do not forget the basic rule for planting strawberries: the growth point (socket) should be at the level of the soil, not higher and not lower;
  • Plants should be well watered after planting.

Delicious strawberries will grow in your country house if you master the technology of growing strawberries in bags. It is necessary to prepare a place for seedlings, in bags, provide watering, lighting and the required temperature. We will analyze in more detail how to organize everything correctly and get an excellent result!

How to grow strawberries in bags

There are a huge number of different tricks and wisdom that apply experienced gardeners on their sites to achieve the highest quality and big harvest. Gradually, these methods led to the emergence of a new cultivation of strawberries.

Almost everyone who has tried this method of growing strawberries does not return to traditional methods but only experimenting with various types unique way:

  • floor-mounted bags;
  • bags on racks;
  • suspended bags above the ground.

But the technology for all these species is the same.

For getting good harvest strawberries, it is better to grow it in greenhouses, although in summer, with good weather, the harvest will delight you in the open.

And of course, which becomes clear from the name of the technology, you need to prepare bags for seedlings, as well as the seedlings themselves and the soil.

We list everything that is needed for the harvest of strawberries in bags:

Planting strawberries in bags

We take pre-prepared bags, fill them to the top with a special substrate. But remember before that, at the bottom, pour expanded clay. This is necessary to ensure good drainage, because strawberries do not like excess moisture. Further, in bags, on four sides, we make cuts, placing them in a checkerboard pattern. We cut vertically, the length of the slot is approximately 8 cm, and the distance between the slots should be 20-25 cm.

We plant one strawberry bush in the holes. You can also place several bushes on the top, open part of the bag. We place bags with seedlings in certain places: on the floor, on special racks, or we hang them on hooks. No more than three bags can be placed per square meter. This completes the planting, then you only need to water, ventilate and wait for the harvest.

Irrigation system for bagged strawberries

For growing strawberries in bags, it is better to use irrigation technology. Such a system will make your work easier, and will also be most useful for strawberries that do not like a lot of moisture. A drip irrigation system looks like a pipeline that supplies water. From it, tubes are connected to all the bags, at the ends of which droppers are installed. For the manufacture of such a system at home, an ordinary hospital dropper is suitable.

The pipeline itself is attached above the rows of bags. Their number depends on the height of the bag and can vary from two to four pieces. One is installed at the very top, and the rest are located at a distance of half a meter down to the end. The amount of water supplied should be such that a bag (30 l) accounts for about 2 l of water per day. You can also add fertilizers and other top dressing to the water.

Strawberries on the table all year round

This method of growing strawberries is able to organize a strawberry crop all year round. In the summer season, strawberries will grow in open ground, and on the balcony, and even on the window. But the rest of the time you need to make sure that the strawberries get enough heat and. For this, greenhouses with heating are used. But the seedlings must first be prepared so that it is hardened and available in stock. It is needed so that you can replace the old one every time after harvesting.

Creating spare bushes, young bushes are placed in a special microclimate, where they remain, but do not develop.

Such storage is organized in an ordinary cellar or basement, as well as in a refrigerator. The main thing is that the temperature is always 0 + 2 ° C, and the humidity is around 90%. For such storage of seedlings, it is better to place them in plastic bags.

Growing garden and garden plants in bags has become a popular method, especially for those who have a small plot or greenhouse. It is also possible to grow garden plants in this way, and this method will allow you to give scope to the varietal diversity of this delicious, fragrant berry.

This original growing method requires some preparation:

  • To begin with, choose a place where the berry will grow. Usually a greenhouse is prepared for this, where especially important point will be the preparation of fasteners for bags. These include hooks or trellises for hanging makeshift strawberry beds. A simple arrangement of such beds vertically or horizontally at some distance from each other is also suitable, trying not to obscure them.
  • You can choose another room, but so that the temperature and illumination contribute to the growth of berries. Do not forget about airing the place.
  • For outdoor cultivation, this method is also effective.
  • The soil for planting is also prepared in advance. They require lightness and low acidity of the soil, and it is also good when it can retain moisture and air for a long time. The ideal composition is turf, humus with the addition of sand. After thoroughly mixing everything, you can add rotted cow dung in a small amount.
  • At the very bottom of a dense plastic bag, a layer of expanded clay is poured, which acts as a drainage, and then fertile soil. After filling the bags on one side and the other, cuts are made in a checkerboard pattern.
  • In addition, it is necessary to consider the creation of an irrigation system for such beds. Above each bag, mix down with a lid, in which holes are made, plastic bottles with a capacity of at least two liters. The tubes used for droppers are removed from the holes, their ends go deep, reaching the roots of the plant.
  • Strawberries prepared by the gardeners themselves are planted in bags at the end of summer so that they have time to give roots and get stronger, and acquired strawberries in early April under appropriate conditions.

Having thoroughly prepared for planting strawberries, choosing a place for installing or hanging bag beds, you can be sure of a good result of the preliminary work.

When placing the bags horizontally, the seedling hole is made small, trying not to bury the roots.

With a vertical one, on the contrary, large holes are dug for seedlings with a spatula. After the bushes have adapted to the new conditions, they are fed with foliar fertilizer.

On one square meter, no more than three bags of strawberry seedlings are placed. When hanging bags, the lower rows of planted berry bushes will be saved from the attack of slugs and ants.

  • To care for the berry, you must follow the rules for watering it: you need to make sure that the earth in the bags does not dry out, but strawberries do not like waterlogging, they will simply rot. carried out according to the dropper method, and a two-liter bottle for a day is enough for the plant's drinking regimen.
  • After the strawberries bloom, they need to be fed with a high content of potassium.
  • If the berry is grown in greenhouses, it is necessary to monitor the correct lighting of the seedlings. It should be as natural as possible, with moments of rest (night) and wakefulness.
  • The temperature regime for comfortable strawberry growth is not lower than 20 degrees above zero. With its decrease or drafts, the berry may die or grow frail with low fruiting.
  • In greenhouses, it is also necessary to maintain a normal content of carbon dioxide to increase yields. For this purpose, lighting a candle is used in the room where strawberries grow. With such time-consuming care, it is possible to increase the number of berry seedlings grown and increase the yield.

You can pick berries all year round. But after two months, it is desirable to remove the fruiting bushes, replacing them with new ones. Although many recommend using one crop of strawberries for 2 years. At the end of autumn, obsolete strawberry leaves are cut off, leaving up to ten centimeters of the stem from the ground.

After ripe fruits are harvested, strawberry seedlings can be preserved for long winter. At the same time, they will retain vitality, genetic characteristics and taste qualities, and the seedlings planted next year will give a new crop of fragrant berries. Store bags with seedlings in insulated rooms or cellars.

After wintering, the berry bushes are put in order, cutting off the old antennae, fed and prepared for subsequent growth.

Advantages of the cultivation method

The cultivation method came to us from Holland and became quite popular with us. Its advantages include:

  • You can harvest berries at least five times a year.
  • Strawberries are less susceptible to disease, and weeds do not have enough space in the bags, and they die, not having time to harm the berries.
  • Bag beds take up a small amount of space both on the ground and in the greenhouse, which will allow you to expand the planting of other garden plants.
  • By using a bag growing method, you can use a variety of varieties and increase the yield of this sought-after berry. For those who want to start selling berries, they can confidently apply this technique and get a good profit.
