How to make a hanging table on the wall. Chic ideas for folding tables

Drawers, cabinets, refrigerator, stove... The place for the table has to be chosen according to the residual principle. But, even if there is not enough space for a full-fledged dining table, this is not a reason to be upset. Look at these original ideas compact dining places, they often look even better than the classic version!

To free up more space in the kitchen, try to adhere to the following rules:

  • A square or semicircular table is better than a round one, as it fits close to the wall or is placed in a corner.
  • A light table is better than a dark one, as it looks lighter. And even better - a glass tabletop.
  • One leg is better than four: more space and fewer bruised toes.
  • Chairs are also important: if they are completely retractable under the table, you will have room to spread out.

Transformable table

It is best for a small kitchen to purchase a table with a folding tabletop or a sliding transforming table. This table, when assembled, is suitable for two, but can become larger when guests arrive.

Wall table

This table is similar to the ones we see on trains. It is usually quite narrow and has a single leg or diagonal support on the wall. It’s most convenient when such a table is attached to the wall with the short side, but not every kitchen’s dimensions will allow it to be positioned this way.

Folding table

A folding table is most often either semicircular or rectangular. When unfolded, it may be similar to a regular wall-mounted one, but not with such a long tabletop. The structure is attached to the wall and, until not in use, looks more like a narrow shelf. Then the table is placed on a spacer or leg and a full-fledged dining space is ready! A folding table will allow you to move freely around the kitchen while cooking without sacrificing comfortable seating while eating.

Bar counter

The bar counter is narrow and long, but it can comfortably accommodate up to five people. Due to its height, it combines well with kitchen furniture, which also saves space.

Tabletop near a wall or window

A narrow wall-mounted countertop will perfectly replace a table in a small, elongated kitchen. The only significant disadvantage will be the wall in front of your eyes, so the best place to place it is by the window. A wide window sill can also serve as such a dining place.

Multifunctional tabletop

If you are willing to sacrifice one of the storage drawers in your kitchen unit, you can use part of the work surface as a table. The table can also be placed perpendicular to the set, but then it is better to choose a place not in the working triangle for its placement.

Extendable table

You can provide a table right inside the kitchen furniture! This is also convenient because, if necessary, an additional surface for cooking appears. However, such a table cannot withstand heavy loads if it does not have support.

Another option for a retractable table is a rotating tabletop, which forms a bar counter. That is, you first cook comfortably on this surface, and then turn it perpendicular to the kitchen set, and the table is ready! This dining space includes bar stools or stools.

Small spaces put forward special conditions for furniture - here a factor such as ergonomics must come first. That is why, when choosing a table for a loggia, you need to give preference to compact, but at the same time functional models. An excellent embodiment of these qualities is a folding table with wall mounting. What are the benefits of such a solution and how to successfully choose a folding model for your interior - more on that later.

What is a folding table?

When assembled, the folding table is a thin strip that not only fits neatly along the wall, but practically merges with it. When the structure unfolds, it turns into a full-fledged tabletop, which can accommodate a whole family or company. The table is fixed on special triangular or U-shaped supports.

Such furniture has a number of advantages:

  1. Compact dimensions. A folding table can be placed in any, even the smallest room, without cluttering up the space at all. You are free to choose any area of the room, because you do not need to adapt to the configuration of the model.
  2. Functionality. Despite its modest size, the furniture is absolutely practical and fulfills all its direct tasks.
  3. Stylish design. The laconic transformable table will harmoniously fit into the interior, gracefully complementing its design ensemble.
  4. Ease of installation. Since folding tables are already sold in full finished form, anyone can install furniture: attach the piece to the wall, adjust its position, check how the support and tabletop function, and then attach it to the wall using ordinary hinges and self-tapping screws. To perform such work, you do not need any special tools or special knowledge.

If you don’t want to spend money on a ready-made model, assemble it yourself:

  • prepare a tabletop of the required size and decorate it to your liking;
  • Buy support strips from a hardware store and secure them with hinges at the bottom of the tabletop. And then it’s just a matter of small things – installation to the wall.

How to choose a folding table

There are many criteria for choosing a folding table, but we will focus on the most important ones, on which the ease of use of the furniture directly depends. The first fundamental factor is the dimensions of the model when unfolded. Consider the size of the tabletop relative not only to the area of the room, but also to the number of people who will sit behind it at the same time.

The second criterion is appearance: shape and design. The shape of the table can be very diverse, but the most common are the following four options:

  • square - the standard model, most reminiscent of a regular dining table. The only difference is the absence of the usual legs. The best option for a family of three.
  • rectangular - the most popular model of a folding table, as it is the most spacious and convenient: it can have any number of seats - depending on the area of your room, but it only takes up space in length.
  • round - an original version of a folding table, which, although it requires more usable space than a rectangular or square one, but fits better into the classic dining area.
  • semicircular - more compact than round, but also less spacious, so such a “half” is not suitable for a kitchen as a dining table - only for a loggia.

As for texture and color schemes, there are no restrictions - in terms of design, folding models are almost as good as traditional tables, so you will not have any difficulty in choosing furniture to suit your interior.

What material to choose?

And another important criterion for choosing a folding table is the material from which it is made. We recommend paying attention to the following options.

MDF and chipboard. Cheap and easy to process material with virtually unlimited design options. The boards can be veneered or laminated: the first in their own way appearance They resemble wood as much as possible, and the latter are distinguished by a wide variety of colors. Chipboard and MDF are lightweight and very easy to clean. But there is no need to talk about the durability of materials, since they are unstable to external chemical and mechanical stress. In addition, such tables cannot be restored.

Tree. An environmentally friendly, extremely durable and at the same time exquisite material, which can decorate any interior with just its appearance. It is not afraid of mechanical shocks, and if treated with protective impregnations, it is not susceptible to the negative effects of even chemical environments. Cons of wooden folding tables– high price and heavy weight.

Glass. A beautiful and extremely durable material that will fit perfectly into any modern interior. The tables are made of tempered glass, so they are not afraid of impacts and scratches. But it is also worth noting that this material is heavy, cold and quite expensive.

Advice. It is best to buy supports from wood or metal - these materials are stronger than chipboard, MDF and glass, and therefore can guarantee the structure the necessary stability and reliability.

Now you know that a folding table with a wall mount can be of any shape, size and texture - take into account their above-mentioned features so as not to get confused in the assortment and choose truly high-quality furniture for your small kitchen or loggias.

Modern small-sized housing puts forward the main requirement that must be taken into account when moving in - ergonomic furniture. In this regard, when choosing tables, owners often give preference to functional, compact modifications, for example, options with folding or folding tabletops.

Advantages

A wall-mounted folding table is a tabletop that is fixed to the wall using special wall fasteners in the form of triangular or rectangular supports. Several advantages of this design should be noted.

  • Compactness. Models can be placed in a room of any size without cluttering it.
  • Functionality. The wall-mounted table performs all the functions intended for it.
  • Style. Models can serve as a decorative element and decorate any interior.

  • Easy to assemble. Manufacturers sell folding tables ready-made with instructions for mounting. The maximum that the user must do is fix the fasteners with self-tapping screws, which does not require any special skills.

The model is so simple that you can assemble a similar table with your own hands. Compact furniture looks great in miniature kitchens, loggias and balconies.

Features of the mechanism

As a rule, the features of folding and folding table options are the types of fasteners. Most often, anchor dowels are used for wall mounting, and the folding parts of the structure are secured using piano hinges. However, the use of more complex fittings ensures the mechanism is inconspicuous, functional and durable. The wall-mounted version of the table is most often equipped with either a lifting or folding mechanism.

A distinctive feature of simple folding structures is the independent fastening of the tabletop and support with fixation of the leg; such models are equipped with a flat triangular or U-shaped holder different shapes.

The movement is provided by a rotating mechanism, and a magnet or various fasteners are installed to fix the legs. It is noted that these variations are the most reliable.

Some folding models have a leg screwed to the underside of the tabletop with a hinge mechanism. In this case, installation consists of securing the table surfaces to the wall. When unfolding, the support folds back like an accordion, which allows you to disassemble the structure in one movement.

Another option for attaching folding tables is brackets. They are most often made of iron or steel. Unlike other designs, the brackets are installed without hinges. They perform two functions at once: supports and hinges. The mechanism is attached on one side to a vertical bearing surface, and on the other to the tabletop. When the table top is raised to a level perpendicular to the wall, it is fixed in this position. To fold, you need to slightly pull the tabletop up and then close it.

Folding or folding options are popular in children's rooms or kitchens. They tend to use the console as additional storage space. Since these rooms require easy-to-use furniture, models are often equipped with various hinge mechanisms. Folding table may have a support leg that moves from the wall towards the opening of the tabletop or lowers from under the table surface. A factory-made turn-out table built into a cabinet or wall can be equipped with gas lifts. These shock absorbers are similar in their operating principle to parts of the rear doors of domestic cars. With their help, you can facilitate the layout of a table of any complexity and weight.

A hanging sample is appropriate, for example, on a balcony, loggia, or in a workshop. Its design is the simplest of all, excluding any additional elements other than the suspension. The simplest tables in the form of a shelf usually do not even fold. They can be hung on balcony railings or on various ledges in the garage.

Any type of furniture associated with transformation is characterized by the presence of mechanisms that change shape or size.

They come in two types:

  • Tsar tables with increase in length or without change.
  • Tsargovye can be synchronous and non-synchronous.

Accessories

The list of components included in the design of folding tables varies depending on the model, but the main parts are the same for all.

  • The brackets can be folding or sliding. They are usually made from metal alloys. The bracket is selected depending on the style of the interior and the functional load of the table.
  • Base plate for fastening the table top. It can be of different shapes, for example, T-shaped, in the shape of the letter P, in the form of a folding leg. Unlike the bracket, the bar is stationary.
  • Loops. Depending on the design, manufacturers use tilt-and-turn options, butterfly hinges or piano furniture hinges to connect the tabletop with other elements.
  • Anchor bolts for attaching folding table tops to the wall.

  • The console for a folding table can serve as an additional shelf or stand for vases, lamps, boxes, books and other interior elements.
  • Fasteners for holding the structure in assembled form, for example, locking hooks for folding tables. Experts advise purchasing folding models with an impact lock. This note is especially relevant for glass tabletops, since if the tabletop is not carefully lowered down, it can hit the wall.
  • Roller guides for retractable structural elements or for mobile table models moving along a rail along the wall.
  • Decorative details to simplify the transformation process: handles, hinges, levers.

Manufacturers mainly offer complete models. The kit, in addition to the table itself, includes all fasteners necessary for installation.

Models

Models are classified according to different parameters.

Depending on the shape

An important criterion when purchasing a folding table is its shape.

  • Square ones are optimal for a small family of three.
  • The rectangular shape is the most convenient because it is spacious and can be designed for a larger number of people. Depending on the size of the room, such a table can be placed either along the wall or across it.
  • The round table is the least popular, but its originality allows it to look great in a classic dining area.
  • A semicircular tabletop is more compact than a round one, but is not practical. Therefore, it is often used in loggias and balconies.

Depending on the type of construction

  • Transformable table– the most functional model. It can be wall-mounted or wall-mounted. It is often used in the kitchen because it has several zones. The table folds easily and makes it possible to create either a compact work option or turn into a dining area. An adjustable transformer has additional functions, which makes it different from a regular folding one. For small-sized kitchens, models without legs with vertical wall mounting are available. Manufacturers also offer transforming tables with one leg, but they lack stability.

  • Folding option. A universal piece of furniture, as it allows you to mount it on any vertical surface, be it a wall or a cabinet. It can withstand quite heavy loads, so it can be used as a school or work one. Folding models, in turn, vary in size, which can be selected depending on the location. It must be remembered that massive tabletops need supports in the form of spacers or several legs. Experts advise choosing options with a drawer or with shelves if overloads are planned during operation, for example, the kitchen table is always filled with dishes, and on the work table there are stacks of books that can be put away in storage areas. A folding table with a mirror that opens like an accordion would be appropriate in the bedroom.

Disadvantage - fastenings are a place of greater load, so during installation it is better to use high-quality mechanisms and parts, and also to eliminate errors in operation. Otherwise, the model risks falling, tearing off the wall decoration behind it.

  • Mobile folding model differs from previous mobility. Guides located on the wall allow the tabletop to move along it. A great option for a non-standard layout. As a rule, the structure is equipped with additional leg clamps that provide support and stability in a stationary position.
  • Folding bar counter. Often used by designers in modern interiors. It is a long narrow tabletop, the mount of which is built into the wall. The products have an unusual design, for example, glass or mirror inserts make them luxurious. The models are perfect for long kitchens. Since the bar counter is mounted high, it is usually equipped with high stools.

  • Hanging option characterized by the absence of legs. It saves space as much as possible, similar in design to a window sill. Manufacturers produce options with sidewalls.
  • Folding table- the simplest option. It differs from a transformer in the absence of additional features. The main difference from all other models is completely up to vertical state does not fold, and therefore, when folded, it looks like a cabinet. This design feature used for storing things.

Materials

  • Chipboard or MDF sheets. The cheapest option that allows you to experiment with shapes. Because it is easy to process, manufacturers offer a wide range of models with different designs. Thanks to veneering and lamination, craftsmen obtain different textures. The advantages of the material include ease of maintenance and low weight. The disadvantage is the low service life, which is explained by the instability of the boards to external mechanical influences and moisture.
  • Wood. Environmentally friendly, non-allergenic material. Exquisite handmade turns tables into masterpieces. However, wooden models are also produced for ordinary apartments. The advantages of the material include durability, strength, and a high degree of resistance to mechanical stress. The main disadvantages are the significant weight of the structure and high cost.

  • Glass. Thanks to the latest technologies, a long service life and the absence of external influences are achieved. The glass table is made of tempered impact-resistant material. Cons: heavy, expensive and cold to the touch.
  • Plastic. Since PVC is not afraid of moisture, wind, or dirt, tabletops are popular on open balconies and children's art studios, where contact with water and a lot of dirt is possible.

Tabletop supports are usually made of wood or metal, which guarantees the stability of the structure and the reliability of the fastenings. For wooden and glass surfaces, manufacturers often offer a chrome-plated version of the clamps.

Dimensions

The main factor when purchasing a folding table is its unfolded size. Dimensions should take into account not only the area of the room, but also the number of people to accommodate. The standard table height usually varies from 70 to 75 cm. It provides a comfortable distance from the table top to the knees of the person sitting. The following standards are accepted for the average person: working area: 1.2 m long and 0.8 m wide. This must be taken into account if the folding table will be used as a desk. If the reclining structure is used as a dining area, then the rules are slightly different.

  • Round table. For the usual version, the diameter, suitable for 4-6 people, can be from 110 to 135 cm, but for a folding table it should be taken into account that it will not be possible to seat anyone on the wall-mounted side. Thus, in the above example, it is necessary to reduce the number of seats per person.

  • Oval table. This design can be mounted both along the wall and across it. The number of seats will depend on the location.
  • Rectangular option similarly to the oval model, it depends on the method of mounting to the wall.

It should be noted that comfortable dimensions for one person sitting at the dining table have been determined to be 60 cm in length and 40 cm in depth. These standards should be taken into account when installing folding models.

Review of the best manufacturers

Nowadays, folding tables are produced by many Russian and foreign brands that produce tables, kitchen ensembles and other cabinet furniture. Their assortment often includes standard samples without special decorative elements. Of course, we need to highlight among them the Dutch brand Ikea, which produces budget transformable furniture with a reliable structure. The main characteristics are maximum naturalness and simplicity, the use of wood and metal.

  • Design of folding tabletops "Byursta" fits perfectly into modern styles, however, they will be inappropriate in classic interiors. The design is cantilever, so when folded the table looks like a shelf. Dimensions are designed for two people sitting. The tabletop is made of chipboard covered with ash veneer. The mounting plate is made of steel. The collection has various colors.

  • It is worth noting the products of the line "Norberg". These are more versatile tables that look great both in the kitchen and in a student’s room. Similar to “Byursta”, it has wall mounting and is designed for two, the difference from this collection is that the tabletop is covered with laminate.
  • A more environmentally friendly and natural option - model "Norbu", made from solid birch. Compared to the Norberg collection, it looks more laconic and ponderous.

Widely known brand "Shatura" also offers several models of folding tables. The assortment includes the following products.

  • Kitchen tables with folding top. The main material for budget options is veneered chipboard or MDF, covered with a polymer film for protection. More expensive tables are made from glass or wood.
  • Folding and sliding dining areas equipped with countertops of different shapes.
  • Folding desks for children's rooms. Folding surfaces allow you to adjust the tilt of the tabletop depending on the needs of the student. Combined options with shelves and cabinets make it possible to save space by completely removing the table or folding it into a wall cabinet.

  • Folding desks for the office.
  • Folding office desk models.
  • Bar counters and folding tables for small cafes, which will allow you to increase the number of additional seats during peak hours.

The production of built-in and wall-mounted furniture is quite popular among regional small factories and workshops. They will make any model to order according to custom sizes. Therefore, if you need to get a unique model of the required design, taking into account the size and wishes of the owner, it is better to either seek help from a professional carpenter or make the table yourself.

How to properly attach a tabletop?

In order to attach a folding tabletop with your own hands, you need to stock up on the following set of tools.

  • Tape measure, ruler, pencil.
  • Screwdriver to speed up work. If the table is made of chipboard or plywood, then it will be difficult to do without this tool.
  • An electric drill is necessary for drilling holes when assembling structural elements and attaching them to the wall.
  • Set of drills for wood and concrete.

If there are no specified electric tools, then simple screwdrivers will do, the installation process will just take a little longer. Methods for fastening a tabletop with your own hands depend on the design and fastening mechanism.

  • The simplest one is a folding table with one support fixed on hinges. The model has many variations. General criteria - simple tabletop shape: square or semicircular, single solid stand, small size. The installation algorithm is as follows.
    • The tabletop is attached to the fastening strip using two butterfly loops, which ensure folding.
    • If the table is to be installed on a wall, then first drill holes and drive in dowels. Screwing the mounting bolts into them, install the support.
    • After this, the fastening strip with the tabletop is screwed with self-tapping screws.

  • A more complex option is a table that folds up, with a folding stand. The dimensions of the structure are average, the tabletop extends lengthwise. The supports can be made in the form of a frame or individual legs; their folding is ensured by piano furniture hinges or in the form of butterflies. The width of the mounting strip of this model is already a full-fledged console, which is attached using corners to one wall. A hinged tabletop is installed on it.

  • Designer tables may contain glass or mirror elements. In this case, before installing the work surface, it is necessary to secure the glass or mirror that is part of the structure.
  • For mounted options They use either stationary fasteners or fasteners in the form of bolts, angles and hinges.
  • Folding tabletops Most often they are attached using hinges, however, factory designs may contain backlashes and closers, which allow the structure to be unfolded and folded more accurately. Typically, fastenings of this type are already complete, so the owner only has to install the fastening strip using conventional methods.

Beautiful examples in the interior

The folding surface is suitable for any purpose. It will help you ergonomically arrange objects in a small area, which will save space and make you feel comfortable.

For the kitchen

In a small kitchen with an area of up to 5-8 square meters. m folding tables are simply necessary. Behind them you can seat up to 10 people with the right choice of model and type of arrangement.

Kitchen tables can be placed as follows:

  • On top of radiators, further masking the battery design.
  • Along the window, using the area of the window sill.
  • Along the wall in the form of a folding bar counter.
  • Across the kitchen, but such models are usually designed for 2-4 people.

Wall-mounted options can be folded, leaving a shelf or console, or can completely merge with the wall. The dimensions of kitchen models depend only on their functional load and room area. Cutting tables are small, dining tables should be designed for all family members. The decision to place a double folding table in the kitchen looks very interesting. First, a small surface is folded down, designed for 2-3 people, and if there is a need to increase the table area, then the second tabletop is lowered.

If the kitchen is used by 1-2 residents, then sometimes a small tea table on one leg is enough. Usually it is round, less often square. However, for a large number of guests, you can provide a surface that can be folded from the wall, which will rest on this table.

A wall detail up to the ceiling will provide the opportunity to organize a huge dining area.

For rooms

Hanging tables are widely used to arrange the workplace of a schoolchild or needlewoman. Designers use lightweight, compact models with a minimum set of functions for the interior of a small room or non-residential premises, such as a balcony, workshop, or storage room. More complex multifunctional massive tables are appropriate where space allows. The idea of a wall cabinet with a folding tabletop in the form of a door is not new. However, it is still relevant because it allows you to organize a workspace anywhere: in a room, an interior hallway, and even in the kitchen.

Massive racks with a folding mechanism are more functional. They can withstand heavy loads, so you can even install computers and TVs on them. The use of folding fronts of secretaries in the form of tabletops is a practical invention of yesteryear. Designers organically fit picture tables into any interior. When unfolded, the table opens up a wall cabinet; when folded, it opens up a picture or mirror. A vertical long narrow table is often built into a wardrobe. It is intended for ironing clothes or sewing, and in the absence of a workplace it can be used as a desk.

For balconies

Designers advise to boldly turn small balconies into a mini-office, mini-bar or mini-living room. Sometimes it may seem like there is no room to create a cozy environment. If you approach the choice of interior wisely, it will turn out that even a person ignorant of design matters can do everything. You will need compact multifunctional furniture and a folding table, and many specialists also make chairs and benches folding or lifting. It is enough to throw a couple of soft textile pillows on them, put a cup of hot tea on a suddenly appeared table and light a lamp.

For cafe

Recently, designers have been paying special attention to the appearance of tables, so small cafes are sometimes decorated with no less taste than reputable restaurants. For this purpose, various hanging glass tabletops in wrought-iron frames are used to create cozy spaces on summer balconies. Bright variations of folding tables for verandas that accommodate groups from small to large.

The veranda is an integral part country house. With the onset of winter, the functionality of the veranda changes and its space is filled with all sorts of things that are undesirable to be stored outside under the influence of rain and snow. My veranda is two meters wide. As expected, there is a table on the veranda. It was its presence that created difficulties when dragging and compactly storing things in the winter. It was decided to make a folding table with our own hands. Several implementation options were considered, but the solution, as often happens, was found unexpectedly. After renovating the kitchen, the cabinet remained unnecessary. This piece of furniture had a direct route either to the landfill or to the oven. The cabinet, despite its shabby appearance, has a perfectly preserved plastic-covered tabletop. The hand did not rise to throw her away. Despite its small size, width 52cm and length 102cm, I decided to try making a homemade folding table from the tabletop. Thinking about the implementation method and selecting components took much more time than making the table. It was decided to attach the table to the wall with a window. This is right, it’s always nice to sit at the table and look out the window and not at the wall. Difficulties arose when attaching the table to the wall and ensuring the strength of the table. Since the wall at the attachment point is covered with clapboard, it was decided to reinforce the attachment point with slats, fasten the tabletop itself with piano hinges to the slats, and at the same time, when open, transfer part of the load on the table to the entire upper area of the slats. To secure the table, use a triangular gusset on two hinges, which, when opened, supports the table from below and at the same time presses the tabletop against the slats.

How to make a folding table with your own hands

1. Two planks measuring ~28cm by 12cm were cut from treated chipboard.
2. A piano loop is screwed to the edge of each plank.
3. The tabletop was placed with the fastening side on a flat horizontal surface and the second parts of the hinges were attached to it from each edge of the tabletop.
4. The size of the scarf is a right triangle with sides measuring 36cm by 41cm. The scarf is also cut from treated chipboard.
5. Simple permanent loops 5cm long are screwed to the 41cm side of the scarf at the top and bottom.
6. Due to the weak fastening from below, in my case I was forced to strengthen the hinge support area with a plywood platform.

Table installation procedure

1. We try on a homemade table at the installation site; the height of the table surface from the floor should be around 72cm. We attach one plank to the wall.
2. Using a level, level the table and attach the second bar. We check with a level that the table is installed correctly and finally fasten the planks to the wall with the required number of screws.
3. Check the opening and closing of the table. When the table is raised, part of the table top should rest on the slats when opened.
4. Fix the table in the open state and screw the hinge and the gusset plate to the wall. In my case, we screw it closer to the left fastening bar. Headscarf pressed against the wall should fit between two slats, otherwise the table will not go down! Also important so that the gusset is pressed forcefully against the tabletop when opened.
5. Check the design. I did not install the gusset lock due to the very tight fit to the table

The table is down

One way to increase the living space of a small apartment is to use transformable, built-in and wall-mounted furniture. Today, folding tables attached to a wall panel are quite popular, which can be installed in any room, from the kitchen to the loggia or shed.

Folding tables are part of transformable furniture pieces, expanding the functionality of a sofa, bedside table or chest of drawers. Our parents are well aware of the secretaries that were fashionable at the time, in which the hinged door turned into a fairly comfortable desk for a schoolchild.

Today, the design and functionality of folding tables have expanded significantly. There are models that do not require rigid fastening to the wall, but are installed close to it. When folded, they can play the role of a rack or cabinet, and when unfolded, they form a small, functional tabletop.

Purpose of folding tables

What is a folding table? Functionally, this is a furniture product in which the tabletop or tabletop panel can occupy a horizontal working position, and when not in use it is placed vertically. A folding table with a classic design when not in use (folded) takes up virtually no space.

Typically these products are used as:

No special skills are required to attach widespread, standard models of folding tables. It is enough to attach a corner with a hinged tabletop to a vertical wall panel using two anchor bolts and workplace ready. Typically, the design is designed to accommodate various objects weighing up to 150.0 kilograms. Moving the tabletop to the working position is also easy. It is enough to lift it and fix it - and the table is ready to perform operations on it. The tabletop can be fixed in a horizontal position in various ways, excluding spontaneous folding of the product.

Features of modern models

A table is a mandatory attribute of any living room, but even modern transformer products take up quite a decent amount of space, which any homeowner would like to free up and use more productively. The urgency of this problem is especially acute in small apartments, where every free meter of living space is worth its weight in gold.

If we consider this category of furniture from the point of view of the designer, then the product consists of only a horizontal panel mounted on four supports. Therefore, the idea of developing and manufacturing wall-mounted samples with a retractable tabletop appeared among furniture designers at the beginning of the last century, and by the middle of it, various designs with folding tabletops were quite often used when furnishing residential premises.

Note!

In the recent past, folding tabletop panels were only used in various models kitchen and coffee tables, today they occupy a fairly wide range in the categories of kitchen, work and country furniture.

Today you can find tabletop panels that are attached to the wall using a narrow corner shelf, and there are models that almost completely merge with the wall plane. The latter specimens can be quite conveniently combined with a window sill on which a heating radiator is placed. In this case, the hanging tabletop will mask the convector heating system. Some inventive homeowners use similar design as a temperature regulator.

Wall mounted kitchen tables

Folding tables are most common in kitchen areas, where the thrifty housewife always runs out of space. Moreover, they can be used both as a main piece of furniture and as an additional one. Typically, wall-mounted products are installed along a long wall, but if the layout of the kitchen space allows, the table can also be mounted under the window sill, the window of which is located on a shorter wall panel. Some housewives, when installing a folding tabletop on the long side of the kitchen, ask their husbands to make a false window.

The tabletop can be of any shape, but the most common products are rectangular, semicircular and semi-oval. At the same time, semicircular dining panels without sharp corners are more preferable for installation in the cramped kitchen space of a small apartment. One or two people can easily fit behind it.

To fix the dining panel in a horizontal position, vertical folding supports or rotating corner brackets are most often used. The pin locks used in some models, built into the design of the rotating unit, are not widely used due to the low rigidity of the structure as a whole in the unfolded position.

When choosing and installing a hanging table in a small kitchen room, it is advisable to adhere to the following rules:

  • To visually “lighten” the interior, you should give preference to light-colored tabletops, and even better, choose one with a transparent dining panel made of special glass
  • Rectangular or semi-oval tabletops are preferable to square and semicircular ones, since with the same area of the dining panel, when unfolded they have a smaller depth dimension.
