The pumping station often turns on and off - what to do? Why the pumping station often turns on Types of breakdowns of the pumping station installed on your well or well.

It is usually created using a pumping station. It is clear that it is better if it works without problems, but breakdowns happen from time to time. To quickly restore the water supply and save on services, you can repair the pumping station with your own hands. Most of the breakdowns can be fixed on their own - you don’t have to do anything super complicated.

The composition of the pumping station and the purpose of the parts

A pumping station is a collection of separate devices interconnected. To understand how to repair a pumping station, you need to know what it consists of, how each of the parts works. Then troubleshooting is easier. The composition of the pumping station:

Each of the parts is responsible for a certain parameter, but one type of malfunction can be caused by the failure of various devices.

The principle of operation of the pumping station

Now let's look at how all these devices work. When the system is first started, the pump pumps water into the accumulator until the pressure in it (and in the system) equals the upper threshold set on the pressure switch. While there is no water flow, the pressure is stable, the pump is off.

A faucet was opened somewhere, the water was drained, etc. For a while, water comes from the accumulator. When its quantity decreases so much that the pressure in the accumulator drops below the threshold, the pressure switch is activated and turns on the pump, which pumps water again. It turns off again, the pressure switch, when the upper threshold is reached - the shutdown threshold.

If there is a constant flow of water (a bath is taken, watering the garden / vegetable garden is turned on), the pump works for a long time: until the required pressure is created in the accumulator. This happens periodically even when all taps are open, since the pump supplies less water than flows out of all points of analysis. After the flow has stopped, the station works for some time, creating the required reserve in the gyroaccumulator, then it turns off and on after the water flow appears again.

Problems and malfunctions of pumping stations and their correction

All pumping stations consist of the same parts and their breakdowns are mostly typical. It makes no difference whether the equipment is Grundfos, Jumbo, Alco or any other company. Diseases and their treatment are the same. The difference is how often these malfunctions occur, but their list and causes are usually identical.

The pumping station does not turn off (does not gain pressure)

Sometimes you notice that the pump has been running for a long time and will not turn off in any way. If you look at the pressure gauge, you can see that the pumping station is not gaining pressure. In this case, the repair of the pumping station is a lengthy business - you will have to sort out a large number of reasons:

If the shutdown limit of the pressure switch is much lower than the maximum pressure that the pump can create, and for some time it worked normally, but then it stopped, the reason is different. Possibly the pump the impeller worked. Immediately after the purchase, he coped, but during the operation the impeller was worn out and "now there is not enough strength." Repair of the pumping station in this case is the replacement of the pump impeller or the purchase of a new unit.

Another possible reason is low voltage in the network. Maybe the pump is still working at this voltage, but the pressure switch is no longer working. The solution is a voltage stabilizer. These are the main reasons that the pumping station does not turn off and does not build up pressure. There are quite a few of them, so the repair of the pumping station may be delayed.

Repair of the pumping station: often included

Frequent switching on of the pump and short periods of its operation lead to rapid wear of the equipment, which is very undesirable. Therefore, the repair of the pumping station should be carried out immediately after the discovery of the "symptom". This situation occurs for the following reasons:

Now you know why the pumping station often turns on and what to do about it. By the way, there is another possible reason - pipeline leakage or some connection, so if all of the above does not apply to your case, check if the joint is leaking somewhere.

Air in water

There is always a small amount of air in the water, but when the faucet starts to “spit”, something is not working properly. There can also be several reasons:

The pump station does not turn on

The first thing to check is voltage. Pumps are very demanding on voltage, they simply do not work at low voltage. If everything is fine with the voltage, things are worse - most likely the motor is faulty. In this case, the station is carried to a service center or a new pump is installed.

If the system does not work, you need to check the electrical part

Other reasons include a plug / socket malfunction, a frayed cord, burnt / oxidized contacts at the point where the electrical cable is attached to the motor. This is something you can check and fix yourself. A more serious repair of the electrical part of the pumping station is carried out by specialists.

The motor hums but does not pump water (the impeller does not rotate)

This error may be caused low voltage in the network. Check it, if everything is normal, move on. You need to check if it's burned out. capacitor in terminal block. We take, check, change if necessary. If this is not the reason, go to the mechanical part.

First you should check if there is water in the well or well. Next, check the filter and check valve. Maybe they are clogged or defective. Clean, check the performance, lower the pipeline into place, start the pumping station again.

We check the impeller - this is already a serious repair of the pumping station

If that doesn't help, the impeller may be jammed. Then try manually turning the shaft. Sometimes, after a long period of inactivity, it "sticks" - it becomes overgrown with salts and cannot move itself. If you cannot move the blades by hand, the impeller may have jammed. Then we continue the repair of the pumping station by removing the protective cover and unlocking the impeller.

Some types of repair work

Some do-it-yourself pumping station repair steps are intuitive. For example, it is not difficult to clean a check valve or filter, but it can be difficult to replace a membrane or a pear in a hydraulic accumulator without preparation.

Replacing the "pear" of the accumulator

The first sign that the membrane is damaged is the frequent and short-term switching on of the pumping station, and the water is supplied in fits and starts: sometimes strong pressure, sometimes weak. To make sure that the diaphragm is the problem, remove the plug on the nipple. If not air comes out of it, but water, then the membrane has torn.

To start the repair, disconnect the system from the power supply, relieve pressure - open the taps and wait for the water to drain. After that, it can be turned off.

  • Loosen the flange at the bottom of the tank. We are waiting for the water to drain.
  • We unscrew all the bolts, remove the flange.
  • If the tank is from 100 liters or more, unscrew the membrane holder nut at the top of the tank.
  • We take out the membrane through the hole in the bottom of the container.
  • We wash the tank - it usually has a lot of rusty sediment.
  • The new membrane must be exactly the same as the damaged one. We insert a fitting into it, with which the upper part is attached to the body (we twist it).
  • We install the membrane in the accumulator tank.
  • If there is, install the membrane holder nut at the top. With a large tank size, you can’t reach it with your hand. You can tie the holder to the rope and so install the part in place by screwing the nut.
  • We tighten the neck and press it with a flange, install the bolts, successively twisting them several turns.
  • We connect to the system and check the work.

Replacement of the pumping station membrane is completed. It's a simple matter, but you need to know the nuances.

Each owner of private suburban housing should know how the water supply system in his house works in general. This is especially true for those who use equipment for forced water supply to the dwelling from a well. During the operation of the equipment, it happens that the pumping station often turns on and off, and therefore you need to know the reasons for this, as well as how to eliminate them.

Device

The system may consist of the following elements:

  • Pumping station. There are vortex or centrifugal installations that can be used in everyday life. All of them differ from each other in their power. It is worth choosing them on the principle that they satisfy all the needs of those living in the house for the supply of liquid.
  • Pressure accumulator. It is a container. It has a membrane inside. When moisture enters the tank itself, it gradually stretches. When the liquid stops flowing into the tank, such a membrane contracts and begins to return to its original state, gradually displacing water from the tank. Thanks to this, a constant and stable pressure can be created in the accumulator.
  • Relay mechanism (mechanics). With the help of such an element, the two units listed above are controlled.

Frequent activation of the pumping station. What to do? If incorrect operation of at least one of the above is observed, then the water pump in the house may often turn off. As a result, the system will wear out faster.

The likelihood that the pump turns on or off frequently may be that the pressure regulator is not functioning as it should. This may be due to the fact that the unit does not hold pressure inside itself. Here the relay, which is indicated above, may not work correctly. To check the correctness of its work, it is worth carrying out the following manipulations:

  1. Check the readings of the pressure gauge, if one is present on the installation.
  2. Check the pressure control assembly. You will have to remove the decorative plastic protection.
  3. Create artificial pressure. To do this, use a pump. You can control it with a manometer.
  4. After determining the minimum atmospheres with a screwdriver, it is worth unscrewing the screw that holds the relay spring. If you turn it clockwise, then the atmosphere will increase, when against - it decreases. When the pump is often turned on in the well, then it may be that the atmosphere threshold is too high. Here you will need to adjust it on your own, set the maximum value that will be acceptable for a particular case.
  5. Then turning the relay spring adjustment screw. This will bleed air from the system.
  6. Such procedures for pumping in and bleeding air must be performed several times until the system starts to work smoothly and turn on correctly. As a result, it should turn out that when the pressure inside the tank reaches the minimum, the relay should automatically turn on.

The reason for the poor performance of the atmosphere regulating unit may also be that the hole inside the relay itself is clogged. This may be due to the fact that the liquid is of poor quality and contains various impurities. Here you need to take a regular brush and clean the relay, namely all its inputs and outputs.

If you need to quickly identify the causes of a malfunction of the pumping station, then it is worth knowing as thoroughly as possible the principle of operation of all equipment.

The most important part of the system is the pump. It can work and produce water intake by different principles (centrifugal or vortex). It can also be placed directly in the well itself or be installed near it. Typically, such units differ in their power and are selected according to the principle of effectively supplying water to all those who live in a country house. Since such devices usually operate continuously, they can wear out in the process, and also cease to function correctly.

The operation of the liquid supply unit

Why does the pump turn on often? The most common reason is that the appliance is not getting enough electricity. It is for this reason that it cannot gain enough pressure, and therefore it will always turn on / off.

Regarding mechanics, it is worth noting that all parts may wear out over time, and therefore will require replacement. It is also possible to start the unit without automation, and then look at the pressure of the liquid jet visually. If this does not work out, then the pressure is already measured in the system itself when it is forced to turn on using a pressure gauge. It must be remembered that all working units cannot be repaired, and therefore, if they fail, they will require replacement.

Pump station assembly procedure

In the mechanical part of the water supply equipment there are pipes for supplying and taking liquid. If they are used for a long time with a dirty environment, they may become clogged with dirt. In this case, you will need to clean the pipes with the help of handy tools. As a result, the fact that the pump often does not work will stop.

Electrical parts of the equipment should be checked and repaired without fail, and parts should be replaced only when the power is off.

The main problem may be in the box where the terminals are located. After prolonged operation, the contacts there may become dirty, and therefore will not conduct electricity well enough through themselves. You will need to clean the contacts with a file or sandpaper. In this way, this malfunction can be eliminated.

It is also worth paying attention to the fact that if there are frequent voltage drops in the network in the house, then the pumping station will not work correctly. Such moments should be eliminated. To do this, you can, for example, connect a voltage stabilizer. This will help not only to improve the operation of the station, but also save other devices from power surges in the network.

Working with pressure accumulator

When the pumping station is often turned on, the accumulator can wear out faster. As a result, pressure will drop in the system, and water will also leak. How to check such an element? This can be done without even disassembling the container itself. Here you need to click on the nipple valve, which is on the barrel itself, where the air damper is located. When, after pressing, air without moisture comes out of it, then everything is in order with the battery. When moisture begins to flow, then such a unit will need to be changed. Here, of course, you can only change the membrane itself, but experts say that it is worth replacing the entire tank.

The correct operation of the equipment itself and a good amount of atmospheres inside are considered inseparable. Sometimes the reason that the pump will often turn off / turn on is the usual leakage of fluid from the pipeline. Such a problem is often quite difficult to identify, but possible.

Here it will be necessary to divide the pipeline into certain parts, into each of which liquid is poured and checked for leakage. This must be done with the supply of a certain amount of air. When the atmosphere does not change in the pipe section for ten minutes and no smudges are visible, then this pipeline element is in order. Such manipulations will have to be carried out until the place of leakage from it is identified.

Preventive measures

As can be seen from the above, it is problematic to find the reason why the pumping station does not work correctly if you do not have certain skills in this. The following are the basic rules, following them will help minimize the risk of problems that were described in the previous sections.

Rules:

  1. Plastic pipes should not be twisted, nor should they have strong bends.
  2. The joints of the pipes must be carefully soldered and covered with sealant.
  3. When the depth of the well from which water is supplied is more than 5 meters, then the diameter of the pipes must be selected as large as possible based on a particular case.
  4. All the lowest points of moisture supply to the room must have drains. This will help in the event that the pipeline will be operated in the cold season. In this way, freezing of water in the system can be avoided.
  5. The station itself must be firmly attached to the base and not hang out.
  6. The pipe, with which fluid will be sucked from the well, should not hang there, and should also be equipped with a filter or mesh so that dirt particles and foreign objects do not enter the system.

When the well and equipment in a country house will work only in the warm season, then they need to be carefully prepared for the cold to avoid water freezing.

To prepare the system for winter, it is worth doing the following:

  1. Shut off the power supply to the control unit. To do this, turn off the machine itself and pull the plug from the outlet.
  2. Next, you need to relieve pressure from the water carrier. When drainage is not provided, the closest faucet to the system must be opened to bleed the water.
  3. The hose, through which the liquid is sucked up, should also be disconnected from the equipment itself.
  4. The pressure in the accumulator should not be lower than 1.5 atmospheres. This will be required so that the membrane in it does not deteriorate.
  5. The rest of the water from the entire water carrier should be drained. To do this, you need to pump the system with air, and also open all the water supply taps.
  6. All elements of the station that were dismantled in the process of preparing it for winter should be well packed and stored in a dry place for storage.

When assembling the equipment, all actions should be performed in the reverse order, as well as check again and seal the joints of the pipeline. In order not to confuse the components, you can find a video on the network with which you can sequentially fold the station, or record all the processes of its dismantling.

Also, all the information that is given in this article will help to make it easier to disassemble the system, as well as to identify what problems it had when it did not want to work correctly. When problems arise with such manipulations, it is imperative to call for help from a specialist who has some experience in carrying out work of this type.

My pumping station has been serving faithfully for the eighth year. On the case, of course, traces of rust appeared due to condensate, this does not affect its operation in any way, it copes with its task. Like any mechanism, the pumping station requires periodic maintenance in order not to lead to serious damage. There are also minor problems that are easily fixed. For example, a pumping station often turns on, why this happens and what to do in this case.

Reasons for frequent switching on of the pumping station

In fact, there are only three reasons for the appearance of such a malfunction as frequent switching on. It is quite easy to identify them, as well as to eliminate them.

Why does the pumping station often turn on:

  1. low air pressure in the accumulator or its complete absence;
  2. rupture of the membrane (pear) of the accumulator;
  3. check valve failure.

What to do and how to fix the breakdown

Naturally, first you need to find out what this problem is connected with. We will move from simple.

1. Pressure in the accumulator. On the rear wall of the hydraulic tank there is a pneumatic valve, which is closed with a plastic cover.

We remove the cover, for convenient unscrewing there are special recesses for the fingers.

Let's check if there is any air in the hydraulic tank. We press the nipple with a match, a characteristic sound of escaping air will be heard. No sound means the tank is empty.

You can skip this procedure, just use the pressure gauge. According to the rules, it should be by 0.2 bar below the minimum start pressure. More about it. If the indicator is less than the desired level, we take the pump, I use the usual manual one. Having pumped up a little, we check the pressure.

An important point: first disconnect the pumping station from the network, open the tap (mixer) and drain the water.

How to determine the desired pressure without a pressure gauge? I do this process by eye. When we pump air into the tank, water starts flowing from the faucet. You need to pump until the pressure becomes almost the same as if the pumping station was connected to the network and raised water.

2. Membrane integrity. Again, we press a match on the pneumatic valve, if water has flowed out of it, definitely, the pear has torn and an urgent replacement will be required.

To get to it, I had to disconnect the pumping station from the suction line, as well as remove the pressure hoses from the outlet located on top.

We unscrew the bolts on which the tank cover is attached, it also presses the membrane. We take out the torn pear, wash and dry the tank. Assemble in reverse order with a new membrane.

By the way, the gap may be due not only to the fact that the membrane has lost its qualities, worn out. This may be due to insufficient air in the reservoir.

3. Check valve. To check, we disconnect the pumping station from the suction line, no water should flow from the valve.

If the valve leaks water, do not rush to buy a new one. Remove it and inspect carefully, it is possible that a foreign object has got inside and is preventing the valve from working properly.

We have analyzed the possible reasons due to which the pumping station often turns on. It is better not to bring to breakdowns at all, to carry out maintenance on time. Recall that the average life of a pumping station is 5 years.

It is customary to use pumping stations in order to organize autonomous and high-quality water supply in a private house. They can also be used to improve the quality of the water supply in the apartment. Of course, like any other device, pumping stations can break down. However, if there is a desire, even without much experience, you can repair the equipment yourself without any problems.

Peculiarities

Pumping stations often consist of a water pump, a hydraulic accumulator, a pressure switch and a pressure gauge. Their main task is the automatic intake of water from a certain source and its delivery to the house. The station also allows you to make the water pressure in the water supply better, protect the water supply system from water hammer and organize a supply of water if there are any problems with water supply.

Mostly surface pumps are used. For the installation of pumping stations in a private house, a separate room with good sound insulation is most often allocated. They can also be placed in caissons.

The power of the pump should be sufficient to lift water from the well and deliver it to the house. One of the most important parts of the station is the hydraulic accumulator, its storage tank must contain at least 20 liters. The hydraulic accumulator allows maintaining a constant pressure in the pipelines of the station. The most successful battery model is a metal cylinder, inside of which there is a rubber membrane. When the station is working, the membrane is stretched, and at rest it occupies the same position.

The pressure switch turns the pump on and off depending on the water level in the tank. Water enters the tank until it reaches a certain maximum level, and then the pump is turned off. As water is used for various purposes, the pressure decreases. When the pressure reaches the minimum mark, the pump will turn on again and water will flow into the tank. A pressure gauge is needed to determine the pressure level in the water supply system.

Each element of the pumping station can either work on its own or as a single system. You can choose both a completely finished pumping station, and assemble it yourself, taking into account your own needs. Pumping stations can safely provide water not only to the house, but also to the bathhouse and other buildings on the site. When the principle of operation of the station is clear, it is easy to identify and eliminate many breakdowns.

Causes of the malfunction

Like any device, pumping stations can have various malfunctions. Among them are the most common ones, you should learn a little more about them.

The pump turns on too often:

  • If at the same time the water comes in jerks, the cause of this malfunction is most often a non-working automation unit, in particular, a pressure gauge.
  • If the pressure gauge readings drop sharply, then it is then that the water will go in jerks. This occurs as a result of the failure of the pressure accumulator membrane, which changes its dimensions based on the volume of water. To determine this breakdown, press the nipple that provides access to the membrane. In the event that you can hear air oozing out of it, then everything is in order. If water is pouring out of it, then the serviceability must be eliminated by replacing the accumulator.

  • Too small volume of accumulator. When choosing a pumping station for a country house, many want to save money by choosing a small hydraulic accumulator (24 liters or less). Such a volume will be very small, since the hydraulic tank eventually collects only 50 percent of the water of its total volume. Thus, in a tank with a volume of 24 liters, there will be about 7 to 12 liters of water in total, which are quickly consumed. As a result, the pump has to be turned on frequently. To eliminate it, it is recommended to additionally install another accumulator.

Incorrect pressure switch setting. The difference between the pressure value at which the pump is turned on and off should simply be made larger. Moreover, it is important that the pressure value at which the pump will turn on must be set to 0.2 atmospheres less than the pressure value in the accumulator. The pressure in the accumulator is checked by connecting a pressure gauge to the nipple. The optimum pressure is 1-1.5 atmospheres. If necessary, it must be bled or pumped up using a pump, for example, an automobile one.

  • Check valve clogged. In the event that the valve does not work and water leaves the system, the pressure decreases and the pump turns on every 10-20 minutes. Often, just cleaning the valve is enough, but sometimes it needs to be replaced.
  • Damage to the spool, which is located at the top of the accumulator. Eliminated by replacing the nipple.
  • Leaky pipeline or its connections. As a result, air enters the system and water flows out of it.
  • The pump pumps water together with air. This is due to the decrease in the water table. It is necessary to solve this problem by lowering the pump or nozzle below.
  • Malfunction of the plug, socket, cord, burning or oxidation of the contacts in the place where the electrical cable is attached to the motor.

  • The pumping station does not turn off: Lack of water in the source, the so-called "dry run". This malfunction can lead to the burning of the pump, since it is not cooled by pumped water. To prevent this breakdown, it is best to use sensors that show the water level. They are electric or float.
  • Suction line resistance value too high. Most often this happens if the length of the line is too long or the diameter of the pipes is too small. To check, immerse the suction pipe in a container of water next to the pump. In the case of a normal rise in pressure, it is necessary to look for the cause in the route. For example, laying pipes with a large diameter, laying the main line in a straight line, minimizing the number of bends and connections.

  • Air leakage into the line occurs due to poor connections (leaky). Detected by observing the pressure gauge after the station is in the off state. In the event that the pressure does not decrease, then everything is in order with the system in terms of tightness, and if it decreases, then it is necessary to look for a leak in the system.
  • Non-return valve or filter on the pipe does not work. They need to be removed, cleaned and reinstalled.
  • Faulty pressure switch. Sometimes the pump cannot build up the necessary pressure due to the fact that the pressure value at which the pump turns off is too high. In this case, it is enough to adjust the shutdown limit. Relay contacts may also fail. In this case, a dark coating forms on them, which is cleaned with sandpaper. The pressure switch may also stop working due to salt that is deposited on the adjustment springs or a clogged inlet.
  • The impeller has worn off. This often happens if the pressure at which the pump turns off is set much lower than the maximum pressure. In this case, it is often sufficient to simply replace the impeller.
  • Low voltage in the network. In this case, it happens that the pump works, but the pressure switch stops. A voltage stabilizer could be the solution.

The motor is running, but the water is not flowing:

  • The impeller does not rotate. This may be due to both low mains voltage and a blown capacitor in the terminal block. The latter is checked using a tester.
  • There is no water in the well or well.
  • Clogged filter or non-return valve.
  • The impeller jammed. In this case, you can try to turn the shaft with your hands, which may become covered with salts. If it was not possible to scroll it manually, then it is worth removing the protective cover and unlocking the impeller.
  • The pump does not draw water. The reason for this failure may be the lack of optimal pressure in it.
  • The flow of water is uneven. It happens that the pump works stably, but at the same time water flows in uneven volumes. The main cause of this malfunction is air in the pipeline. To eliminate it, it is advisable to check the water level in the well or well, and, if necessary, adjust the position of the water intake hose.

How to fix?

Do-it-yourself repair of a pumping station is a completely doable procedure. However, it must be remembered that before you fix the problem and resume normal water supply, you should drain all the water and disconnect all elements, including the expansion tank, pressure gauge, pressure switch, and so on. If the engine is not running, the first thing to start with is to check the supply voltage. Then it does not hurt to check the entire electrical circuit for connecting the station. It can also happen due to contamination of the pump, which means that it should be disassembled and cleaned. In this case, it is advisable to install an additional filter. If the fuse has failed, it must be replaced. The fan impeller must spin freely. If not, then the engine is stuck. In this case, the motor cannot be started until the problem is corrected.

It is worth checking the contacts of the pressure switch. It would also be useful to check the terminal capacitor. If there is no water in the device, then you just need to fill it in there and reduce the suction height if it is no more than 7 meters. Make sure that there is no suction in the suction pipe and clean the non-return valve. Next, you need to adjust the voltage stability, reduce the resistance in the discharge pipe, clean the pipeline or lay a new one along a more direct path (without sharp bends).

If the engine is running but not supplying water, you need to:

  • check the water level for the intake;
  • eliminate air leakage into the pipeline;
  • clean the supply part of the pipeline;
  • fill the system with water to eliminate the air lock;
  • eliminate the reasons why the equipment runs dry.

Insufficient water supply is eliminated as follows:

  • clean the pump and pipeline;
  • fix a pipeline leak;
  • remove the slightest air leak in the suction section of the pipeline;
  • in case of significant corrosion, replace the suction section of the pipeline.

If there is an excessively frequent switching on / off of the pumping station, then you need to:

  • Replace damaged accumulator diaphragm or hydraulic tank.
  • If the compressed air pressure is low or there is no compressed air in the tank at all, the tank may have been damaged due to corrosion. You should remove it, and then pump air into the tank to the required pressure according to the pressure gauge.
  • A foreign object has blocked the non-return valve and it cannot close. In this case, it is necessary to carry out actions to unlock the valve.

The pumping station does not provide normal pressure:

  • Too low values are set on the pressure switch, they are being adjusted.
  • The inlet of the pressure switch is clogged, it is necessary to clean it.
  • If there is a blockage in the supply pipeline or the working body of the pump, then turn off the power. Then clean the pipeline and pump.
  • In the presence of air in the pipeline, the tightness of the joints is checked, it is desirable to make as few joints and bends as possible.

If the pumping station works, but does not turn off, then the pressure switch is set to a very high value and needs to be adjusted.

Manufacturers and reviews

On the market you can find pumping stations from various manufacturers. Of course, they all have their own characteristics. However, when choosing, you should rely on real reviews from users. For example, pumping stations Pedrollo They feature beautiful appearance, great performance and low heat when used for a long time. But among the shortcomings, it is worth noting low-quality rubber, the taste of which can sometimes even be felt. Automation also showed itself not in the best way, as well as the cast iron body.

Stations Espa work great for the first 2.5-3 years. The pumping stations of this manufacturer do not have any obvious shortcomings. Practice shows that as a domestic use, the devices show themselves to be of high quality and reliable. The only thing they need is the correct conditions of use (humidity, temperature, and so on). Unipump pumping stations fully comply with the declared characteristics and are practical in operation. Great for country houses, as they are easy to use and fully automated. Rarely after a few years of use there are minor breakdowns.

Any owner of a country house should know the design of the water supply system. For example, there is a frequent turning on and off of the pumping station - how to fix this problem? This will be discussed below.

System device

So, the domestic water supply system has several components:

  • Pumping facilities. There are centrifugal or vortex pumps. They are produced in various capacities, which allows you to meet the water needs of both a small family and a large household.
  • Hydraulic accumulator. This is a container with an elastic membrane placed inside. As soon as water enters the tank, the membrane begins to stretch. When the flow of fluid stops, the membrane rushes to its previous position and pushes the fluid out, so that the accumulator keeps the pressure constant.
  • Mechanical relay. This part controls the first two listed parts of the water supply system.

Important! Incorrect functioning of at least one of the above elements becomes the reason why the pumping station often turns on and off. The result is rapid wear of the system.

pressure regulator

One of the likely reasons that the pumping station does not hold pressure may be the malfunctioning of the mechanical relay. To check, you need to carry out a few simple manipulations:

  • We check the correctness of the indication of the built-in pressure gauge, if any.
  • We check the adjusting unit, for this it is necessary to remove the plastic protection.
  • We create a working pressure in the system using a car pump, the indicators of which are controlled by a pressure gauge.
  • Then we note the minimum pressure value. Using a screwdriver, turn the screw that fixes the control relay spring. Turning it clockwise increases the pressure, while turning it counterclockwise decreases it. When there is a frequent switching on of the pumping station, most likely this threshold is too high.
  • Turn the screw counterclockwise, bleed excess air. The pumping and bleed procedure must be carried out several times. As soon as the pressure reaches the lowest mark, which is given in the instructions, the relay should automatically work.

Another reason for the incorrect operation of the automatic unit is a simple clogging of the relay holes due to poor water quality. Take a hard brush and brush this part well.

Checking the operation of the charge pump

Why does the pumping station often turn on? Another reason may be insufficient electrical power to the device. That is why the pump simply cannot gain the required pressure and is forced to constantly turn on and off.

As for the mechanical part, its components can also wear out over time. The pump can be started without an automatic block, by force, and then evaluate the jet pressure visually. Using a manometer, the pressure inside the system is estimated. Working units are not repaired, so you should immediately change them in case of breakage.

The mechanical part of the pump includes inlet and outlet pipes. With prolonged use, they can simply become clogged. In this case, mechanical or chemical cleaning can help.

The electrical part of the pump must be checked, be sure to de-energize it. The main problem should be sought in the terminal box. After prolonged use, the wire contacts may oxidize and affect the operation of the device negatively. You just need to clean the wire contacts with fine sandpaper to eliminate such a nuisance.

If there are problems with electricity in your home, in particular, with pressure drops, you need to eliminate this phenomenon. For example, you can connect a stabilizer. It will save not only the water pump, but also other electrical appliances from surges in the electrical network.

Pressure accumulator and its check

If the accumulator is turned on frequently, it will wear out over time. As a result, water leaks and pressure drops. How to check this most important element of the pump?

The check can be carried out without even disassembling the unit. We press the valve-nipple. It is located in the part of the battery where there is air. If after pressing a stream of air comes out, then everything is in order. If water starts to flow, then the accumulator needs to be changed. Of course, it is possible to change only the membrane. But, as practice shows, it is better to change the entire accumulator at once.

Correct pressure and good pump performance are inseparable things. Sometimes the cause of a sharp drop in water pressure can be a hidden leak in some part of the pipeline. Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to identify it, but it is possible. The entire pipeline is divided into segments. Then water is poured into each of them and the pressure is checked using a pressure gauge. If in 10 minutes it remains unchanged, everything is in order. Do this until you find a leak.

How to avoid problems?

As you can see, it is quite difficult to find the cause of the incorrect operation of the water pump. Here are a few rules that will slightly minimize the risk of the problems described above:

  • Plastic pipes must not be twisted or bent at sharp angles.
  • Pipe connections must be carefully sealed.
  • If the depth of the well is more than 4 meters, the diameter of the pipes should be as large as possible.
  • All points of the pipeline must be equipped with water drain systems. This will help a lot if the water suddenly freezes.
  • The pumping station must be well and efficiently attached.
  • The suction pipe must be equipped with a mesh and a special filter.

If you live in a country house only in the warm season, you need to properly prepare the water supply system for the winter.

To do this, you need to do the following:

  • The system should be de-energized. To do this, you need to remove the plug from the socket, and also turn off the machine.
  • Now we need to release the pressure. If there is no special drainage, then open the tap closest to the pump.
  • Disconnect the suction hose.
  • We check the pressure. It must not be less than 1.5 bar.
  • Water residues from the pump are drained.
  • All elements of the water pumping station are carefully folded before the onset of the warm season.

To assemble the system, you must perform all the steps in reverse order. In order not to confuse anything, we recommend that you preview the video, in which everything is indicated in detail.

We hope that our tips will help you figure out the problem of frequently turning the pump on and off. Remember that this problem cannot be ignored. It is from the frequent switching on of the pump that the water supply system will fail much earlier, which will require much higher costs.
