The napkin holder is a special cutlery, which, in addition to its functionality, can bring a touch of celebration and luxury to the dining table. There are a large number of options for manufacturing materials. And this is another way to express a particular style of decorating a holiday table. Anyone who has a special avant-garde attitude to the formation of table settings can use several types of napkin holders at once. The combination of crystal and forged metal on a white tablecloth will look non-trivial. A composition of wooden utensils and clay products will fit perfectly into the rustic style.

Stylists, designers and experts in the design of special ceremonies offer a large number of options for designing napkins. They can be presented along with a plate, beautifully arranged in a napkin holder, or simply placed under a dish. There are no limits to imagination here. The main thing is that everything looks harmonious.

Classic fan in stand

This is the simplest and most classic way to arrange napkins in a stand. Housewives love it for its ease of implementation and the fact that this option will fit perfectly into any design style.

Fan formation:

  • folded napkins are folded in half diagonally to form a triangle;
  • We fill the napkin holder with such triangles in one direction so that we get a fan.

“Lotus shape” or double-sided fan – a little variety in life

This option is based on the previous one and looks like this. The napkin holder is filled with folded triangles, first in one direction, then repeat the procedure in the opposite direction. Thus, 2 counter “movements” are obtained. This option is suitable for ‘active’ and ‘expressive’ festive table setting.

The double-sided fan may look a little different:

  • first, half a fan is formed from triangular napkins in a stand;
  • then fill the second part of the napkin holder in a mirror image;
  • then the middle is formed from triangles, one of the corners of which ‘looks’ up.

The result is a fan that opens from the center in both directions. This option will look harmonious in a narrow and small stand, which will allow you to place them on the table next to almost every guest. This way, everyone will be comfortable eating and enjoying dinner.

Waterfall in a cup or glass

Simple and modern way designing napkins for the festive table. This option is more suitable for decorating in grunge, modern or hi-tech style. After all, the laconicism of the composition is “at its best.”

Forming a “waterfall”:

  • The napkins must be folded in half along one side. You should end up with a rectangle;
  • then we put these strips of napkins into a stack;
  • Insert the rectangles into a not very high special bowl with the short end down. The result should be a cascade or waterfall of napkins that fall onto the wall of the vase. In the absence of special utensils, the bowl can be replaced with a shallow cup or glass. By the way, such a composition will look very impressive in a crystal glass on a stem.

Flower in a glass or large bouquet in a vase

Flowers are pleasing to the eye, lift your spirits and give you a feeling of celebration. Bouquets and compositions on the festive table can be made not only of fresh flowers. Some designers produce entire lines of table decorations made from artificial flowers. But other stylists have come to the conclusion that this type of decoration can be made from napkins. Yes, from regular napkins for guests. They can be like fabric, or they can be simple paper. Howling, in the hands of a skilled person, everything can ‘open up’ with a pleasant color.

We “revive” napkins:

  • unfold the napkin. Then we begin to fold it into a strip about 4-5 cm wide and do this starting from the corner;
  • then we roll the resulting strip into a roller. We form the middle and “open” the petals. This way you will get a delicate rose bud.

This flower can be placed in a small glass and placed near each guest. Or you can go another way. And build a whole ekibano from rosebuds in a large and wide plate-bowl. If desired, the composition can be supplemented with live branches of olive, coffee, pine needles or other plants. The combination will turn out to be very unusual.

Spanish fan in a glass

For a pompous and pretentious table setting, you can fold napkins in the shape of a Spanish fan. By raising this element into a glass or wine glass, you can get a powerful dynamic tool for creating volume on the holiday table.

How to make a Spanish fan. Simple steps for great results:

  • the folded napkin must be unfolded once to form a rectangle;
  • starting from the long side, fold the napkin like an accordion;
  • We press the tip with the resulting accordion so that the fan holds on. Using the same end, we insert the napkin into the glass and open the top. Voila! The Spanish fan of passion is ready. Bon appetit!

We decorate the table - layout of napkins in plates and options for combinations with cutlery

In addition to napkins in stands, there should be napkins on the table that are laid out near each guest. They serve as a “frame” for the plate, delimit the seating area and help in serving cutlery.

Playful bow with ring

Many companies that produce kitchen utensils produce special napkin rings. Having passed through such a ring, the napkin will look much more impressive. But if you don’t do it the classic way and make an unusual shape, the table will look even more attractive.

Step-by-step creation of a bow:

  • unfold the napkin. Then fold it diagonally;
  • Fold the corner a little so that it doesn’t stick out from under the bow. Fold the napkin from the long side to the folded corner;
  • Visually divide the resulting strip of napkin into 3 parts. Fold the 2 outermost ones onto the central one;
  • fall carefully, the bow is still “alive”, pass the napkin through the ring;
  • straighten the bow loops and pull the ends down. The playful table decoration is ready!

“Butterfly” with a satin ribbon - dress code for the table

This option for folding a napkin will appeal to avid needlewomen and craftswomen. It requires a little more effort than a similar option with a ring. In addition to the cloth napkin, you will also need ribbons. You can also use various braided cords and twines and decorate the butterfly with beads.

How to tie a bow tie for your plate:

  • fold the edges of the napkin towards the center;
  • fold the napkin in half again so that the edges remain inside the fold;
  • mentally divide the resulting strip into 3 parts and fold the outer 2 onto the central one;
  • tie the middle of the “butterfly” satin ribbon or other braid. A strict but very cute “butterfly” is ready!

Heraldic lily blossomed in a plate

For the classic decoration of the holiday table, it is necessary to select the appropriate design and method of decorating napkins. After all, not only the color and tone of the elements must match. Cut, style, model and design undoubtedly play an important role. The voluminous fleur-de-lis is a form that will look great not only in the classical style, but also in the Gothic style, Art Nouveau style, and even Scandinavian style.

To create a lily, in addition to a special napkin ring and the napkin itself, you will need a little time and patience. This is not the easiest element to perform.

Step by step instructions:

  • fold the napkin in half;
  • then bend the upper corners towards the center;
  • Now repeat the procedures with the lower corners and bend them towards the central corner. You should now have a diamond shape;
  • the upper edges that were folded last time must be bent back 1/4 of the entire diamond. Thus, blanks for a fleur-de-lis are obtained. In order for the flower to ‘open’, you need to put a napkin ring on it. This must be done from the bottom of the workpiece. Afterwards you can straighten the petals a little. And the flower is ready!

One move, but how stylish - a “tie” for a fork

This option is more reminiscent of a playful decoration for cutlery than a serving of napkins in the classical sense. This design of plates and forks is more suitable for a modern stylistic solution for the design of a festive table. A couple of light movements and the grunge style decor is ready.

We knit a beautiful “tie”:

  • Unfold the napkin and fold opposite ends from center to middle;
  • fold the rectangle in half so that the free edges remain inside;
  • fold the napkin in half again, but with the short edges facing each other;
  • At the bend of the rectangle, a loop is formed into which the free edges must be threaded. And the main thing is not to forget to put a fork, knife or spoon in a bundle. This will create a “tie” for the device. Stylish, simple and very original!

An envelope or something from a restaurant on your table

This method will fit perfectly into almost any stylistic direction. Besides his beautiful appearance, it also carries a functional load. You can put cutlery in it and thus arrange their serving. You can also add a name card, fresh flowers and other decorative elements.

Instructions for creating a pocket:

  • unfold the napkin. Fold the top right corner and the bottom left corner towards the center. But note that the top corner should be folded slightly less than the bottom;
  • carefully place the right half (from the center) on the left;
  • then bend the lower left corner;
  • Fold the napkin in half again. Only this time from the bottom up. At the same time, be extremely careful - the corners that were bent should remain that way. You should end up with a square with beveled corners at the top left;
  • turn the square face down. Fold it in half - from right to left;
  • turn the product over again. As a result, you will get a rectangle with beveled cuts into which you can insert cutlery or a sprig of lavender or olive. And please your guests!

Options that create additional volume and individual compositions on the holiday table

Volumetric options from napkins can be used as one of the elements that will set the “pace” and compositional “movement” of your table. Such forms can include candles from napkins, fleur-de-lis, or voluminous flowers in plates and on the side. It depends on your imagination.

Star, flower or snowflake - call this beauty what you want

The floral theme can be seen in clothing design, in interiors and even in table settings. There are flowers on the table, both live in compositions and artificial: panels and even roses and lilies from napkins. Continuing this theme, napkins on the festive table can be folded in the shape of a lotus flower or an unusual snowflake.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • unfold the napkin. Fold the corners towards the center to form a diamond shape;
  • carefully turn the diamond face down;
  • Fold the corners towards the center again to form a square. There will be visible cuts on the corners of the napkin;
  • Very carefully, from the back, pull the last corners of the napkin onto the front side. They should "look" up. Pull out all 4 ends. This way you will get the perfect fantasy flower or diamond-shaped snowflake.

Small napkins are used for tea, dessert or buffet. Also, mainly colored napkins are selected for these events.

Napkins should match the color of the tablecloth and dishes. You can choose x in one tone or correctly combine solid colors (green tablecloth - light green napkins or blue tablecloth - yellow napkins).

Usually napkins are placed to the left of the plate or on them. With this arrangement, you can thread the napkin into the decorative ring.

How to decorate a table with napkins if you have the most ordinary napkins at hand? Let's look at some interesting options as an example:

  • how to decorate a table with table fan napkins;
  • "tiered corners";
  • artichoke napkins.

Any product made from napkins will turn your holiday into something unforgettable and you can be sure that your guests will appreciate you.

Table decoration with table fan napkins

To make a table fan, you need to fold the napkin in half with the front side facing out. Gather three quarters of its length into an accordion and fold the first fold down. Fold the unfolded part of the napkin diagonally to form a stand.

Table decoration with “tiered corners”

How to decorate a table with crafts made from napkins

Crafts from napkins - a bouquet of flowers

As a rule, artificial flowers look good on any kitchen table or coffee table, so let's start with this versatile option.

You will need:

  • 10 napkins of any color (you can take several pink and several white);
  • scissors;
  • wire;
  • pencil;
  • a lid with a diameter similar in size to a napkin;
  • green paper for crafts from napkins on the table;
  • felt-tip pens (pink and lilac, for example);
  • glue.

We begin to create our flower display from the stems. To do this, take the wire, cut it into as many pieces as we have flowers, and then wrap it with green paper. To prevent the paper from immediately falling apart, you need to wrap it around the wire at an angle, and finally treat it with glue.

It is important to remember that crafts made from napkins at the stage of forming the stems should have places where the buds will be fixed, and it is there that a thicker stem should be made, for example, by wrapping it in several circles with a thin cut from the same green paper. This is done to fix the bud.

Before cutting off the excess with scissors, you need to fix the layers so that they do not fall apart.

Then we trace the edges of the already cut napkin with a felt-tip pen. This will help revive our flowers and give them a more original look.

The bulk of the work was done. All we have to do is find the center of the bud and make a neat hole in it, where the stem will be pulled to the point of compaction.

Important: the hole should not be too big, it is better to make it as small as possible, otherwise the flower will wobble on the stem or even fall to the very bottom of the stem.

Tip: the colors and types of flowers from napkins can be used in a variety of ways. If you designed the interior according to your zodiac sign, you should resort to this method when creating crafts.

After you have placed the future flower on the stem, bend the top of the stem and begin creating the petals.

If the display falls apart or does not hold its shape, fix the layers with glue in some places.

Craft from napkins - ball

To decorate your room, you can resort to this idea of making a ball of napkins. And not just a ball, but a flower one. However, if we talk about decoration, many elements in the design of napkins are based on the creation of floral elements.

What we need:

  • flowers from napkins;
  • paper ball;
  • glue.

By analogy with decorating a table with a bouquet, we make many similar flowers. It is extremely difficult to predict the quantity, because in this case it all depends on the size of the ball you take. To find a ball for sale, you can look into a store that sells stationery and paper decorations.

So, we are trying to finalize the finished flowers that we have prepared. To do this, you can attach a white pearl bead to the center of each flower, which will slightly reflect the light and add elegance to the product.

Unlike the option with flowers on a stem, flowers for a ball may not be decorated with a border if you plan to decorate them with beads. The main thing is to know when to stop so that the product does not look bulky.

And the last step is to glue the flowers tightly together to the surface of the ball. The only thing else you can do at your own discretion is to attach a rope with which the ball will be attached to furniture, a chandelier, or the ceiling.

As for the colors that can be used as a base, there can be a maximum of two different ones, otherwise the product risks taking on an awkward appearance.

DIY chairs, as a rule, have a brown color if they are not painted, so in a room where such furniture is present, it is better to decorate it with orange or brown napkins. A very original option would be to decorate the kitchen so that the balls hang above each of the chairs.

Whatever option you choose to create crafts, be it a Christmas tree, a cutlery mold, a ballerina figurine, or even a picture, decorating the table with napkins can be done in accordance with the interior that is inherent in your kitchen.

You shouldn’t overload the table with crafts; just lay them out in a beautiful sequence and give them an original shape.

46 photos: How to place and place in a napkin mold, how to lay out napkins for table setting, how to put in a round napkin holder.

Napkins are an important element of table setting. They perform both aesthetic and hygienic functions. There are fabric and paper napkins. Paper products are cheaper and more practical, textile products are more expensive, but look more festive.

However, you can add solidity to any type of napkins. All you need to do is arrange them beautifully in a napkin holder. This convenient device not only serves as decoration, but allows you to take items one at a time.

Peculiarities

There are many occasions when the table needs to be decorated for a meal. In some families this is a daily routine. You don’t have to wait for guests to arrive to update a beautiful tablecloth and get new plates. The same applies to napkins. People use these products every day and they need to be on the table at all times.

Before putting napkins in a special napkin holder, you need to decide on their color. The color scheme of the festive table setting should correspond to the celebration. A universal option is white. It will suit any occasion.

Snow-white napkins on the same tablecloth are a classic and always winning option.

Red napkins will fit perfectly into the table decor for a romantic evening, and golden, silver and green ones - for New Year's. If Halloween is celebrated, it would be appropriate to use orange or orange-black napkins.

They can be served with candles of the same color. Bright options are suitable for decorating a children's holiday table (for example, you can assemble a rainbow from the corresponding colors).

Also, the shades of the napkins should be in harmony with color scheme tablecloths and table setting items. All together they should form a single ensemble. As for the shape of the napkins, it can be different depending on the occasion of the holiday and the age of the guests.

Typically, products are folded as simply as possible so that guests do not have to worry about unwrapping them before use. Especially simple diagrams are suitable for paper versions, since they are smaller in size and it can be difficult to arrange them into an intricate design.

Depending on where the napkins will be placed (on or near a plate, in a glass or napkin holder), choose the option according to which they will be folded.

How to fold it beautifully?

The table setting immediately makes it clear how carefully the owners prepared for the reception of guests. Excessive or, on the contrary, insufficient table decoration can spoil the entire impression of the event. And, on the contrary, a tastefully decorated table can decorate both the room in which it is located and the celebration as a whole.

All details on the table should be in harmony with each other. The layout of cutlery and the arrangement of glasses must comply with all the rules of etiquette.

There are many ways to beautifully display napkins in a napkin holder. One of the most simple options– take products of the same size, but two different colors. Then they can be laid in a fan with the corners up. This method is suitable for a flat napkin holder.

You can also arrange the napkins in the shape of two fans and place them “toward each other.” You will get the so-called “crown”. Another interesting option is to lay out the fan in different directions from the center. This way you will get a “lush fan”.

The “corners” method is even simpler. Napkins are folded diagonally and placed in a napkin holder, alternating by color. You can take two, three, or more different shades.

All of the above options can be additionally decorated with a paper rose from one or more napkins. Most likely, it will not be used directly for its intended purpose, but will decorate the composition. This rose can also be placed separately.

The fan can be varied by placing half of the folded napkins lower than the first row of the fan, alternating two contrasting colors. A visual chess effect will be created.

Several types of napkin holders can be combined on the table. If the device is round in shape, there are two main ways to arrange napkins in it.

  1. Each napkin is rolled into a tube (no thicker than a simple pencil) and placed close to one another until the entire napkin holder is filled.
  2. Each napkin needs to be straightened out and then folded into an accordion. After this, the accordion is bent in the middle. Then you need to insert it into the napkin holder. The more napkins you use, the fluffier the accordion will be.

If the stand is a rectangle, you can lay out the napkins in a spiral. To do this, the products are stacked on top of each other, each subsequent one with a slight angle shift. In cafes and restaurants, waiters use this method; it requires a certain skill. You need to fold all the napkins into an even pile between your palms and carefully unfold them with smooth movements.

You can make an interesting bird with napkins as its tail. Parts that imitate the head and neck of a bird also need to be rolled from this material. To do everything correctly, you can use the instructions.

  1. Wrap the napkins into elongated trapezoids, this will be the bird's tail (bend parallel corners, fold the napkin in half).
  2. The bird's head and neck are made from a rolled napkin.
  3. The tail, head and neck of the bird must be carefully inserted into the napkin holder, being careful not to damage the integrity of the structure.

Instead of a napkin holder, you can use a bowl or an original cup. In such dishes you can serve napkins with an interesting double-sided waterfall. This option is even simpler than the “corners” method. Each product must be unfolded, then folded in half. After this, you should put all the folded parts on top of each other, bend the pack in half and place it in a cup with the “shaggy” part facing up.

If the napkin holder has a fantasy shape (for example, it is made in the shape of a girl whose “skirt” is just napkins), you can distribute several of these “girls” around the table. In such napkin holders, the layout is even easier, since they have their own segment for each napkin.

You can consider an option in which a vase or glass plays the role of a napkin holder. In this case, styling methods in which the middle of the napkin is inside the glass and the ends hang freely will be effective. This is acceptable when the number of guests does not exceed ten people, and there is room on the table to place a personal napkin holder next to each of them.

Of course, there are much more options for creating beautiful paper figures, especially if you are going to place them not in a napkin holder, but arrange them one at a time on plates. There are methods that work for both options. For example, “hat with a lapel.” Below is a step-by-step description of how to do this.

  1. The napkin is folded in half with the wrong side inward.
  2. The product is folded in half again. It turns out to be a square.
  3. The upper left corner is folded back, leaving 2-3 cm to the top.
  4. Next, you need to wrap the side corners inward, fastening them to each other.
  5. The resulting figure is installed straight, with an acute angle upward.

If you carry out the proposed sequence of actions step by step, the result will be a design that resembles a hat with a lapel.

A “lotus” made from napkins will look impressive in a wide, low vase, especially if you use napkins of the same color but different tones to create it.

How to make such a flower is described in the instructions below.

  1. Take 96 napkins of the desired color.
  2. Make 96 blanks for petals.
  3. Fold each quarter-fold napkin diagonally.
  4. Bend the resulting triangle down from the top corner to the center.
  5. Turn over and fold small corners up.
  6. Fold the product outward in the center. The workpiece is ready.
  7. Next, the lotus is assembled. Two petals are connected to each other at the corners. Eight rows are assembled in this way.
  8. The petals are straightened upward.
  9. The lotus is ready. If desired, you can make a stand from 12 green blanks and place the lotus on it.

For more information on how to fold napkins with a lotus, see the following video.

Napkins should be folded and laid only with clean, dry hands; the napkin holder itself should also be washed and dried. A greasy stain can ruin the most spectacular composition.

The more people are present at the celebration, the more intricate the decor items should be.

If the occasion is not too formal, such as a children's birthday party or dinner big family, there is no need to strictly observe etiquette. It is enough to support only the shade of the tablecloth (or tablecloth-runner) with the color of the napkins. For a children's event, you can involve children in decorating the festive table, including folding napkins.

If the reception follows all the rules, then the table setting must comply with them. The use of oilcloth is not permitted. Only an immaculately clean and carefully ironed linen tablecloth can make the right impression.

Dishes and utensils must be thoroughly washed and wiped dry. They must also be absolutely the same for each guest. The number of cutlery near the plate should correspond to the number of dishes served. Napkin holders should be available to everyone who wants to use them.

All shades of leaf fall are suitable for an autumn celebration, and the entire palette of pastel colors is suitable for a spring celebration. Both variegated patterns and plain bright colors are suitable for a summer holiday. In winter, during the New Year holidays and Christmas, combinations of green, red and gold are appropriate, and later – blue, blue, white, as well as other “snowy” prints.

For the convenience of guests, it is more advisable to combine two types of napkins for serving: fabric and paper. Then some (textile) will lie on the laps of guests, while others (paper) will serve for hand and mouth hygiene.

Successful examples and options

Below are examples of table setting, the design of which uses different ways of placing napkins in a napkin holder.

Save so you don't lose!

Take note of these simple ways folding napkins into a napkin holder to beautifully set the table on weekdays and holidays. All you need are napkins, a few minutes of free time and our step-by-step and visual instructions.

Method 1. Rose from napkins

Do you want to surprise your guests without spending even 5 minutes folding napkins? Then we suggest making a rose that looks much more complicated than it actually is. By the way, this method helps out when there are no napkin holders at hand. One rose can hold from 8 to 15 napkins.

Instructions:

  1. Place a glass/jar and prepare a small stack of napkins (preferably plain ones);
  2. Along the edge of the glass, bend the first napkin at an acute angle inward;
  3. We continue to fold the napkins as shown in the video below;
  4. Having laid the first layer, repeat the procedure and lay the second layer in the same way;
  5. Turn the glass over and take it out. We still have beautiful rose or lotus;
  6. We put the napkin rose on a beautiful saucer;
  7. We admire it!

Tip: If you fold the first layer of three green napkins, you will get the effect of leaves.

Method 2. How to fan out napkins in a napkin holder

The classic fan layout of napkins is the most versatile. It is equally suitable for a romantic dinner and children's day birth and for a regular breakfast.

Instructions:

  1. Without straightening the squares of napkins, fold each one diagonally to form a triangle.
  2. Start stacking the triangles on top of each other with an offset of about 1 cm as shown in the video below.
  3. When the circle of napkins is closed, insert the fan into the holder.

Method 3. Flower in a glass

Another “floral” option for arranging napkins, but in a glass. The method is convenient for guests, allows you to place a lot of napkins and does not require a special holder.

Instructions:

  1. Place a stack of 21 napkins in front of you with one corner facing you.
  2. Roll the first top napkin into a cone by folding two opposite sides over each other (see diagram at right). Fold all the napkins this way.
  3. We form the first layer of the flower: fold 9 blanks into a fan with a shift of about 1 cm, then put the fan in a glass and slightly straighten it to fill the entire circumference of the glass.
  4. We form the second layer: we fold a fan from 6 blanks and place it in the center of the flower.
  5. In the same way we form the third layer, but from 4 blanks.
  6. Finally, we form the core of the flower: we fan out 2 blanks, roll them into a bag and place them in the center of the “bud”. Hooray! You have a flower that looks like a peony.

Method 4. Crown

One of the simplest and most convenient types of laying out napkins is in a napkin holder. To make the “crown” look more interesting, you can play with napkins of different colors.

Instructions:

  1. Without straightening the napkins, fold each one diagonally to form a triangle.
  2. Now, mirror the second piece onto the first piece. In this way, fold the entire stack of napkins one by one (the quantity depends on the capacity of the napkin holder).

  1. Finally, move the resulting stack slightly to the right and left, and place a triangle on each side of its center (wide side down). Voila! The crown is ready.

Method 5. Bird

And here is the original layout of napkins in a napkin holder in the form of a swan or peacock.

Instructions:

  1. Bend napkins (9 pcs.) into a trapezoid as shown in the video.
  2. Make the bird's head: take one napkin and gather it into a tube 1.5-2 cm wide, and then bend its tip to the side.
  3. Assemble the blanks with a fan with a shift of 1-1.5 cm.
  4. Place the fan body in the napkin holder, then insert the head.

Method 6. Lotus, pine cone or artichoke

Finally, the most effective way to fold napkins is with a multi-tiered lotus, artichoke or cone - whichever you prefer. Here is a video instruction.

By playing with the number of napkins and their shades, you can come up with other shapes of cones.

5 tips for selecting napkins and arranging napkin holders

  1. When setting the table, it is important not only to beautifully fold napkins into napkin holders, but also to position them correctly and provide easy access to them for guests. As a rule, napkin holders are arranged at the rate of 1 napkin holder for 4 people.
  2. The shade of napkins is most often matched to the color of the tablecloth, table runner or mats for plates, as well as accent utensils.

  1. The color of the napkins can match the current season or traditional holiday colors. For example, in the fall, products in orange, yellow and burgundy tones will be good on the table, and for a New Year's feast - green and red napkins.

  1. Can't decide on a color? The most universal option is white napkins.
