In Moscow hospitals, 14 victims remain as a result of a fire that occurred on Monday afternoon, July 10, in the RIO shopping center. Visitors and workers were evacuated in conditions of heavy smoke. Four were cut off from the exit and waited for rescuers in a refrigeration room. A total of 18 people were injured, including a six-year-old child. "Even there was no fire alarm"

Information about smoke in the building of the shopping center on Dmitrovskoye Highway was received by emergency services at 17:39 Moscow time. Firefighters who arrived at the scene were unable to locate the fire immediately. Later it turned out that things were burning in a textile store on the ground floor. The alleged cause was the explosion of a gas cylinder at a nearby catering point.

About 3,000 people were inside the building at the time of the fire. Judging by the posts on social networks, there were many women with children among them.

“Thank you so much to the man who took us all with the children in an armful and took us out into the street, since we were a couple of tens of meters from the fire,” a user under the nickname nastia_zavarzina wrote in Instagram. - Please note that the man was not an employee of the shopping center (security), but the guards, in the meantime, escaping from stress, used some kind of herb from a bag. It is a pity that I did not have time to photograph these scum (I have no other description for them). When they saw me, they pretended not to do anything. Blatant negligence, there was not even a fire alarm, I shouted to the sellers to leave the stores, as they did not immediately understand what was happening. And only after 5-7 minutes they said: "For technical reasons, please leave the shopping center."

Some visitors to the shopping center were poisoned by combustion products, but they did not turn to doctors for help, so the total number of victims could be significantly more than 18, which were officially reported in.

People who were in the cinema at the time of the fire learned about the evacuation by pure chance. A detailed story about this was posted on social networks by a user under the nickname pankova_sport.

An excited girl quickly walked towards her... Behind her, as in a movie, a dark cloud of smoke slowly approached .

The girl was very surprised that she met me ... to my lowing “where is the light?” in response, I heard: "What, are you in the hall? Look? Come out!". A guess immediately came to my brain - they forgot to warn us about something ... I had to quickly enter the situation and take people out of the hall even faster (it was lucky that there were few spectators). The administrator girl immediately disappeared ... and the youngest daughter, annoyed, slowly began to look for her sneakers under the chair ... Grabbing her by the hand, she led everyone along the chain. As we left the hall, we met another group of the same lost refugees, like us. We stumbled upon a group of ten people at the exit from the cinema - adult men with small roaring children in their arms and nervous women, they ran out of that dark huge cloud with a pungent smell - the plastic and decoration of the shopping center were clearly on fire. I was surprised that among us - visitors - there were no representatives of the shopping center, cinema, rescuers who were in a hurry to help us!

Next to us stood a guard just as frightened as we were and did not know where to run and where the nearest exit for evacuation was ... Or rather, he did not know at all where the exit was ... Panic grew with every second - a terrible black cloud and acrid smoke were approaching us just as quickly. All adults realized that we were in a dark narrow labyrinth without windows and doors, where there was less and less air ... and all space filled with smoke. Noticing a small window high above my head, I tried to knock it out with my hand, my strength to cope with the plastic was not enough. We ran further, feeling like in a mousetrap, I rushed forward to the children and returned back to my elderly parents, trying to calm and keep in touch with everyone with my voice so as not to lose anyone. Grandmother began to pray out loud. Scary... My heart was pounding 200 beats per minute and jumping out of my chest... We were afraid to run into a dead end... Behind us, smoke and carbon dioxide cut off our way back. Finally, they saw the light, the older children rushed to him, I asked them to pick up my youngest daughter and returned to my parents.

The screams of the children subsided: we were separated by about 2 floors. We went with our parents to the light ... Our whole group approached the saving plastic door with windows - sunlight poured out of them, and we saw the street ... The man who was carrying his daughter arrived in time (the baby was crying all the time). Everyone stood in front of the door in humility and expectation of a miracle, probably, as before the gates of paradise, that they themselves would open before us, but the door did not open. All the children were taken out of the small dressing room back to the stairs, and I asked the man to knock down this door. She probably even gave a command, since the man himself was waiting for something and was not sure that this was the right thing to do.

Errors in the engineering, technical, architectural work of builders, the low level and absolute unpreparedness of personnel for evacuating people in emergency conditions, the complete failure of the owners of the shopping center as managers and as responsible for the safety of people on the territory of the center, the incompetence of security guards and cinema administrators could cost us our lives. .

"The firefighters showed heroism"

Firefighters, according to Viktor Biryukov, arrived at the scene within six minutes. “Extinguishing was complicated by the fact that synthetic fabrics caught fire in the basement, there was very difficult access. The temperature reached 100-150 degrees, but the firefighters coped with their work with honor,” he said.

The head of the city fire fighting service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Yuri Zhukovsky, himself worked together with his subordinates in a smoky building and led the rescuers' sortie to the refrigeration room, where two young men and two girls hid from the fire.

To get to them, Zhukovsky and his colleagues had to break out the blinds and the shop window - two layers of durable plexiglass. Three of the four rescuers issued self-rescuers to get through the premises, shrouded in acrid smoke to the street. Yuri Zhukovsky shared his mask with the fourth. They breathed through it in turn until the very exit.
