Important and interesting information about paints for painting candles

How to make a candle more elegant and attractive?

It can be painted in any color and you will get an original decorative product. To achieve this, dyes are often added to the wax mass during the manufacturing process. This method allows you to completely change the color of the candle. But in order to create a specific design or pattern, you need to use special paints for painting candles (surface painting).

Painting candles with acrylic paints

Acrylic paints are water-based dyes. Thanks to this, it is very easy to mix them on the palette without adding special components and obtain unique colors and shades, and you can create complex patterns on the surface of the candle. As in painting, brushes of different thicknesses are used for this, which allows you to play with the width of the lines and the smooth transition from color to color.

For surface painting of paraffin and wax candles, it is better to use professional acrylic paints from Coloritex Group. This is a company whose products are used by many wax artists. • Engraving on a decorative candle

The best and most original gift is the one you made with your own hands. To make a decorative candle, you will need a DREMEL ® engraver. This lightweight and compact tool will allow you to engrave and decorate a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, wood and leather.

Materials needed to make a decorative candle:

    • candle
    • tracing paper
    • thick needle
    • dye
    • engraver DREMEL ®

Step 1: preparing a drawing for painting on a candle

First, measure the height and circumference of the candle. The height and diameter of our candle is 8 cm. Transfer the obtained measurements onto paper and cut out. Draw a simple picture on a piece of paper. The pattern can be taken from wrapping paper, fabric, or it can replicate the patterns on your favorite pillow or curtains. Once the design is complete, wrap the paper around the candle.

    Step 2: paint the candle

Use a thick needle to transfer the painting onto the candle.

Step 3: completing the production of a decorative candle

Now place your DREMEL ® engraver in first gear. Using this almost weightless tool will not raise any questions even for beginners. Making sure you are holding the tool straight, trace the outline of the design onto the decorative candle. You just need to very lightly touch the surface of the decorative candle with the tip, without pressing, as if you were drawing with an ordinary pencil.

Remove excess wax from the surface using a kitchen towel or napkin. Finally, use paint to apply the design to the engraved surface and your gift is ready!

The beautiful, good tradition of lighting a candle at a wedding goes back centuries. However, lighting a symbolic family hearth at a wedding is not only a tribute to tradition, but also a very sincere and romantic ceremony. Originally designed wedding candles, decorated by hand, add festivity and solemnity to the wedding. I propose to decorate candles using the fashionable Point to point technique (dot painting).

    1. Decorating a candle with dot painting is a fascinating process that has its own little subtleties. In addition to the candle itself, we will need: scissors, tracing paper, tape, hard pencil, contours of the desired colors, it is better to use special liquid wax, it is very convenient to apply from a pencil tube, beautiful effects are provided by Marabu contours with glitters, and Decola with sparkles. Since decorated candles usually do not burn out completely, but serve more as table decoration, I use all three types of contours. If candles are going to be burned, then it is better to use water-based liquid waxes.

    2. Draw a stencil on tracing paper according to the size of the candle. Let's cut it out. Secure it to the candle with tape.

    3. Transfer the drawing to the candle. To do this, we outline each element of the design with a hard pencil, leaving an indented mark on the surface of the candle. then remove the tracing paper with the design from the candle. The candle had a kind of scratched, “engraved” design on it.

    4. Place dots on the top of the candle. I have two wedding rings that I outline with gold glitter. When applied, the contour is opaque, almost white with shiny inclusions, after drying it becomes colorless with golden sparkles. This outline gives a beautiful, effective design.

    5. Apply dots to the main design along the silver-colored contour with liquid wax. The size of the dot is adjusted by the pressing force. To obtain small dots, apply an almost imperceptible light touch with the nozzle. The wax is quite liquid, so you need to work carefully, trying not to smudge the already applied pattern. The failed elements can be removed carefully with a cotton swab or, after allowing them to dry, gently pry them off with a toothpick. It is better to let the first layer dry thoroughly. We do not use a hairdryer, so as not to melt the wax; if it is necessary to speed up drying, you can only use cold blowing with a fan or hairdryer.

    6. Carefully fill the inner space in layers with dots of white with glitter and gold with glitter flowers. Let it dry.

    7. We make the second candle in the same way. Our candles are ready.
This method of decoration can be used to decorate not only wedding candles, but also candles for any holiday table: for New Year, Easter, birthday, Valentine's Day. Can be given as an original souvenir.
This technique goes well with decoupage and other types of decoration. It itself is distinguished by its special grace.

We will need: a mold for casting paraffin or wax; cream for easy removal of the candle from the mold; wick; a wooden needle or pencil to secure the wick; paraffin (approximately 300 g); pigment for paraffin or wax; a special additive to acrylic paints to allow painting on wax or paraffin; acrylic paint (light green); paint brush (preferably thin).

Step 1. Prepare the mold for casting. Apply a thin, even layer of cream to the inside so that later, when the paraffin has hardened, the candle can be easily removed. We attach the wick as shown in the photo. We leave one edge of it in the recess in the mold, tie the other (or screw it onto a needle). In this case, we have a casting mold without a hole, instead there is a recess for the wick this will be the top of the finished candle.

Step 2. Prepare colored paraffin. Pour paraffin granules into a container (the granules are very convenient to use, you don’t need to break or saw an ordinary household candle), immediately add the pigment (blue and a little pink are used here, but this is a matter of taste). You can add stearin (20% of the total mass of paraffin) so that the finished candle burns longer and melts less, but you can do without it. Melt the entire mixture in a water bath. The water does not need to be brought to a boil, but if this happens by accident, then it’s okay. Stir with a spoon until the mixture turns into a homogeneous liquid with evenly distributed color. So, colored paraffin is ready. Pour it into the mold. You need to pour it slowly into one place, preferably closer to the middle, and do not lift it high. Let the paraffin harden for about a day, because... Our candle is quite massive.

Step 3. The next day, take the frozen candle out of the mold. This is very easy to do, because... The mold was previously greased with cream. There is no need to sharply turn the mold over so that the candle does not accidentally slip out of it and break. The candle can be washed with soap and water (a little and warm water), because... its surface may be slippery due to the cream. If it is still difficult to remove the candle from the mold, you can briefly place it in a cold place, for example, in the refrigerator, and then try again. When the candle is removed, you need to cut off the unnecessary part of the wick.

Step 4. Now you need to draw the grass on the candle. You will need acrylic paint and a special additive to it so that there are no difficulties when burning the candle. Mix in a separate container in a 1:1 ratio (half a teaspoon of paint and half a teaspoon of additive). You don't need a lot of paint. Now we take a brush, preferably a thin one, and paint. Acrylic paint dries quickly. The candle is ready!

Making a candle at home can give you an unforgettable experience. A candle with this design will make a good gift, especially on spring days.
